5 month old puppy- yellow diarrhea, bland diet and paste not helped

Puppy had runny poo and not eating so took her to vet on Friday. Checked over and given an anti-nausea jab and promax probiotics paste.

She's had that for 3 days, plus bland diet of chicken and rice. She has perked up in herself a bit, but her runny poo is now still liquid and bright yellow.

Obviously will call vet tomorrow, but is there anything else we can do? Her appetite is fine now.

defiantly doing the right thing taking her to the vet, puppies can dehydrate very quick which is the main problem with diarrhea. Just make sure she is drinking plenty and get the poor dab into the vet asap.

Pups can get upset tummies very easily, and it might be nothing, but always better to be safe than sorry

Mine has yellow poo WITH too much chicken (and turkey... oops, she overindulged on Xmas day).. it might not be the case but it might be worth switching to fish (I buy plain cod frozen blocks and either nuke or steam them) if my pup gets the runs.. just in case it is the chicken making it stay yellow!

It could be the bland diet that isn't helping. Chicken and rice seems to be the go to thing for the majority of vets.

However, one vet once told me to ditch that advice (mine has a stomach condition which would flare up frequently) and use our normal wet dog food and split it into many portions and feed that over the day. E.g, every hour for the first day, then every 2 hours the next day, then every 3 hours etc until you are feeding normally. This has the benefit of using your normal food so not introducing new stuff but in quantities that are small enough that the stomach can easily digest it when it's upset. This has worked brilliantly for us and I use it now every time he is ill and he recovers more quickly.

Thanks. Waiting for call back from vet. She doesn't have wet food normally, just kibble. I'll try fish.

It's also the fact it is still runny. The vet recommended scrambled egg as well, which she's had before and loved but this time won't touch.

I thought yellow meant allergy?
Ours gets runny yellow poo (and horrendous wind) if she eats dairy.
She eats fine and seems fine in herself though. Have seen lots of dogs with allergies to different meats grains etc.
Maybe just process of elimination?

Hmmm. It was brown and runny to start with (lovely!), like normal poo but diarrhea. It has changed to yellow, possibly because of the chicken.

She's generally OK in herself, a little bit more clingy and barky than normal.

I've had this with my dogs from time to time. Promax is pretty good and you can often cure it with that without a vet visit sometimes - you can buy it online cheaper than the vet's. However, if it does not sort it out, as you are finding in your dog's case, back to the vet - she may need antibiotics. Once with one of my dogs, nothing seemed to cure its diarrhoea so I got the vet to test a poo sample and she had acquired a different sort of worm (not treatable by our usual worming tablet and also had an infection). Downside is, you have to collect the sample.

Try Chappie original the one that has rice in it . It’s very bland but brilliant for curing runny poohs
My vet swears by it for dogs with a runny pooh
We also keep a few tins of it just in case and it’s always worked wonders for our dogs

White fish cooked with the rice (so the rice absorbs all the fishyness ) is what we use, plus lots of hard boiled eggs. But beware smelly farts.

My golden retriever pup would get the runs on any kind of kibble or wet food. She was weaned onto raw by her breeder, and I feed raw, but wanted to find an alternative for a holiday I had planned, camping with dogs. Nothing worked for her, she seems to have a really sensitive stomach, Even on the raw diet she gets the runs after eating something she's found, my little terrier OTOH can eat anything.

When our pup had the runs our vet suggested tuna and pumpkin (tinned but not the pie mix) bought in waitrose. Cleared up her iffy tummy in 48hrs then I slowly added in her normal kibble over about 7 days 🙂

Is it giardia? Yellow poo can indicate some kind of parasite. If it isn’t clearing it could be worth getting a poo sample tested
