The doghouse

Looking for supporting waterproof dog bed that doesn't cost the earth. Can anyone help please.

I'm a dog walker. My own lovely labrador often joins me and at any opportunity he enjoys swimming, splashing and mud.

I then drop him home quickly with little time for a rinse (which he detests) or a proper dry down.

He then sleeps like a log- but his bed is suffering.

He will always choose his bed as we have hard floors. I wash the cover regularly but his labrador smell has permeated into the bed itself and it's smelly.

I've had a look at past threads and the beds that are recommended such as Orvis are so so expensive. I'm hoping someone might recommend something a little more manageable in terms of price please.

Ideally really well padded (the ones at our local pets shop look thick but having felt them I feel they are not well padded), I also I think waterproof is a must although I guess this will make it less soft for him.

Any suggestions?

I guess The other alternative is trawl the charity shops for old divers / blankets / sleeping bags and use a hard bed and these , which you can chuck when they start holding the smell.

Have a look on Ebay see if you can get one second hand?

They really are worth spending the money on.

Tuffies without a doubt //www.tuffies.co.uk. Expensive but extremely durable, easily washed and with removable covers. Very comfy for big dogs. Mine's still going and looks like new after 7 years so the' per day cost' made it worth it. Trawl through eBay, gumtree etc for a used one.

I got a waterproof memory foam bed from Home Bargains. Think it was £15.00

As an alternative have a look at Ruff & Tumble dog drying coats instead. We have a water loving lab and got fed up with our sofa getting wet and for his fur smelling damp for taking too long to dry (the slightly curly bum for above his tail)!

Now we use a coat he's dry in under an hour and falls asleep cosy as anything in his coat.

I don't work for R&T I'm just a really huge fan of their product 🥰

Look for a secondhand Tuffies nest or mattress? Really, really hard wearing and can be hosed down/sprayed with Dettol and wiped off.

They are pricey, but ours are a couple of years old and the mattresses show no signs of wear at all. One of the covers does, but that's because one of the bloody dogs is a digger...

We had a memory foam bed ( large flat rectangle) for our lab with waterproof covers which we got from Pets at home. This was some years ago now though.
