Can anyone recommend a cottage with great off lead walks (this is essential), a secure garden and a pub near by?
I'd like to go away for a long weekend, location wise anywhere from the lakes down to south coast.

The Isle of Wight is a wonderful place for dog friendly holidays. Lots of great coastal and inland walks and nearly all pubs let dogs in. Would particularly recommend the west side - Yarmouth through Colwell bay, Totland bay and freshwater. Some of the pubs in the smaller places are not open all year so worth checking in advance.

There is a Facebook group called something like Dog Friendly Holiday Accommodation. People post their requirements such as size, date, duration, possibly budget etc and cottage owners post their availability. There are often people travelling alone with their dogs and you can ask for advise for things to do in the area etc. There seem to be some amazing bargains for last minute bookings too.

We are just back from a couple of days in York and I was shocked how dog friendly it is! We found places for brunch and dinner no problem, even some shops were happy to let him come in.
We stayed in a hotel though but assume you could find a dog friendly cottage there easily.

Keswick. Dogs everywhere, shops, pubs, walks....

Northumberland for off lead walks on beaches.
