Itchy Dog - not fleas!

Looking for recommendations on products to stop my poor dog from itching so much. He definitely doesn't have fleas, we use frontline on him and I check him every day for fleas! These are very easy to spot as he is tiny and white. The itching is driving me crazy and is mostly at night, he keeps me awake with his leg thumping on the floor itching himself! I have searched for hot spots which he is prone to, he does have a history of allergies only in the summer, which I give him antihistamines for. In the past he has been on steroids from the vets but I dont want to put him back on them if something else will work. I use the dermacton spray for him which is very good but it doesn't seem to he helping this time round. This started off under his ear and now he is madly scratching his chest! Are there any tried and tested products which actually work to stop him itching?

Apoquel. Expensive but it works.

We use Yumega itchy dog oil added to his food and Aromesse spray directly onto his skin. Piriton also added to his food in the summer months.

What allergies does he have? We had a dog that developed food allergies at about 3. I never nailed down the exact issue but I put her on a low dose of Piriton for the rest of her life and that solved the problem.

The only thing that stopped by poor boy from scratching and licking himself raw was Apoquel

Our dog had this. It turned out she was allergic to grass. Medication from the vets kept it at bay.

I would avoid Apoquel and try Cytopoint. It's an enzyme injected on a monthly basis, still quite new but revolutionary too.

My golden retriever's dose costs £104 a go but it's worth it. He would be in a buster collar most of the time otherwise. He had Apoquel for a while before cytopoint was available because I felt we had no other choice, but it didn't really work for him anyway.

You can always try skin supplements for itchy dogs, that might be enough if you don't already. For instant relief for a period of time the Cytopoint is amazing though.
