Bitty dog/Could my dog be identifying as a cat?

I bought him a new quilt the other day to go on his side of the sofa. He didn't seem that impressed at first and kept pushing it off. Now though, he's become quite enamoured with it and sucks a corner while kneading with his paws and flexing his toes, almost the way a cat retracts and unsheaths its claws, but not anywhere near as elegant . Then he lies there for a bit face down in the quilt snorting and gargling contentedly before dozing off in a puddle of dog saliva.

Please tell me about your weird dogs! should I seek advice from Mermaids Grin

(pics of him kneading)

He's young, but not a pup (a year) and has never shown "kneadiness" before. We livewith 2 cats, do you think he might be copying them?

Another peculiar thing is with his food bowl. If he doesn't finish his food, he does this really exaggerated pantomime of covering it up with invisible leaves or something. He'll use his nose like a shovel, as if to bury it or gently snap the air all around it. Then he'll scrape the floor to cover with more thin air.

He is so handsome.
We always called it playing the piano when our cats did that .
Not sure if he has been spending too long with your cats and now believes he is a cat .
Is he devoted to you or does he just see you as his servant ? Only way to tell if he thinks he's a cat .

My little shit JRT, 3 in December, does this to her bed. So cute!

Playing the piano Grin

He also gets an erection if he's in a stressful situation.

He's better at catching pigeons than the cats...

The thing is the cats detest him and he adores them.

Your madame looks cute doing it Womblish, mine looks like the keyboard player of that terrifying 70s band, Sparks.

Mine was staring intently while I ate a cheese toastie on the sofa as he sat beside me (he's very restrained with food to be fair). Once he'd realised I wasn't going to give in to begging, he started trying to use his nose to bury my lunch under the blanket and save it for later (!) He does the same thing with chews and on one awful occasion, he buried his own vomit in a pile of laundry

Grin Saving the vom for later! Actually he is very good with "cleaning" up the cat sick, very thorough Smile

I'm still astounded when people say dogs aren't dirty. They are filthy, substance oozing, little fuckers.

Have you seen short film?

Our silly border does that! She also kneads your leg when she's falling asleep

She also hides her food until she wants it later 😂 I've added a photo of a chicken wing she lovingly carried around the room until she settled on the corner of the room behind the door then added some Christmas tree needles she found under the sofa, a piece of kindling and a bit of stuffing from her toy Grin.

She also has a duck that she likes to shag so we call it the fuckduck. 😂 i added a photo of when she jumped in the bath with me Hmm

My ridiculous dog bites his water bowl extremely noisily and dramatically if it gets low to alert me that it needs filling. I works so well that I wonder if he's starting to believe that chewing it makes more water magically appear Hmm

I did once have a cat that thought he was a dog. He loved car rides and would come when I whistled and very much enjoyed walks on the beach.

@SpamChaudFroid Grin
Love the film

My boy carries his dinner around then attempts to bury it in carpet and fresh air! Given the opportunity, he will actually bury it outside then unearth it later. He does the same with some of his favourite toys. Twit.

I know loads of dogs (including mine) who do that kneading thing. It's completely normal!
