The doghouse

How do you clean up dog poo when it's loose?

I'm on Borrow My Doggy and walk a lovely little dog once a week. I am not an experienced dog owner at all. The owners leave her all day while they're at work and trust me with a key to go in and take her for a walk at lunchtime. Unfortunately she seems overweight, badly trained, and I've found out from the owner they give her lots of human food. Anyway I know this is none of my business, I enjoy walking the dog but she often does her business on the pavement in nice residential streets before or after the park or the woods where I take her, and often her poos are really loose ! try my best but the owners only supply plastic bags which end up smearing the poo all over the pavement. I often can't clean up properly and am embarrassed to leave the pavement in a mess. How would you all proper dog owners deal with this?

I usually carry some kitchen roll with me, when the dog goes to squat you place the kitchen roll on the ground for them to go in, then just bag it all up

A bottle of water to squirt remains away?

I used to use cat litter when small poodle had the squits.
Wipes for as much as possible in the bag then sprinkle litter on the remains.
She always wanted to shit at the bus stop too I had to lure her on Blush

Water bottle and kitchen roll, definitely.

They always pick the worst places to get the runs!

Kitchen roll
I asked someone about this and they recommended just staying that bit longer in the park/woods, and rewarding rewarding rewarding after they inevitably toilet, as going on the pavement can become a self fulfilling habit (ie dog begins to think that is the right place not the park)

A empty washing up liquid bottle is ideal as you can get a powerful squirt of water with them and so dislodge the poo with more effect

We bought some Zorb it-up. It turns liquid to solid. Since getting it our GSD has not done a sloppy plop in public so we haven't tried it yet but the online demo looked great. It turned a cup of water into a solid.

Agree with above, but there's an underlying issue - dog is clearly having too much/wrong food. Hard for you as it's not your dog ... but you could mention how awkward it is etc. and perhaps get them to do something about it? Ask owners to supply kitchen roll etc. (or I use newspaper).

My old greyhound had the loosest poos imaginable. I carried bits of old newspaper and a couple of large plastic carriers (supermarket type). As soon as he went to squat I would pop the newspaper down then fold it all into a carrier.

Normal size dog poo bags were useless!
