Hard wearing plush toys

Can anyone recommend any plush or 'soft' toys for large dogs? Mine isn't a chewer, he tends to just carry them around, however he is a bit 'rough' with them, thus they don't last long!

Also, if anyone has any recommendations for any other toys (that aren't the plastic bone variety) that would be great.

All things kong work for billypup, the best is a kong frisbee, made from the same stuff as the kongs you dull and put in the freezer, but it’s a toy, she likes just having it with her or playing frisbee with it. Also Our neighbour got the oinking pig from Tesco which has worked for her dog but ours destroyed the pink very quickly.

King wubbas are very hard wearing and although not plush they are material based , our terrier takes the extremeties off most of his toys but the body is generally hard wearing . We also have a collection from Costco ( penguin / duck ) that have lasted a long time and they are plush . My dog is not remotely interested in the normal rubber Kong , he can unstuff them even if frozen in a matter of minutes . Bone wise he currently has an antler , some camel hide ,a piece of buffalo , a rice bone , an aubergine dental stick and something for teeth that looks like a piece of coving sitting in a pile in my lounge ( it’s like a Serengeti grave yard ) . The only thing he is guaranteed to eat as soon as he gets it is ostrich tendon twists / spaghetti .

Kong Knots Teddy bear has survived relatively well here, though DDog isn't as prone to destroying toys as he was when he was younger.

Mine is a mini dachshund and tears through plush toys in seconds.

I’ve found the suede ones last the longest. Green&Wilds do good ones.

And, although not invincible, the invincible puppy toy from Pets at Home (I’ve attched a pic which will hopefully show) seems to hold up as well.

@AvocadosBeforeMortgages mine used to love those when he was a tiny puppy! But he had one a recently that he tore into immediately and ate some of the rope inside. Then spent two days pooing rope! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I like the toys that have got a rubber ball in their tummy rather than that white fluffy stuff so once ddog has chewed the head and legs off there is still another toy to play with. They are quite cheap too - Tesco has some for £4

We've had a couple of these for our Shepherd/lab cross who loves soft toys but normally destroys them in minutes. Worst she's achieved with these is to chew the ears off

If your previous toys are fluff filled, have you tried restuffing?

Our pup destuffed 3 toys. I collected all the fluff and squeaker from her hedgehog, put it all back in and sewed it up.

When I gave it back to her she was a bit confused... but she still plays with it a lot. It's been over a month now and she hasn't destuffed anything since.

This is an interesting article about soft toy killers.

I've found that TK Maxx, of all places, seem to have really good soft dog toys. We bought one a couple of years ago for a friend's pup and it's the only one she hasn't destroyed. She's a total land shark but this one is still going strong. I can't remember the make but it was a sort of canvas material.

I've found the best ones for my soft toy obsessed lab are from Ikea. They last really well and you can chuck them in the washing machine every now and again.

@spiderlight I agree with that article. I have a Jack Russell and it's very much in his nature to hunt and kill little furries; and it is interesting that he is perfectly able to differentiate between his things that he can 'kill' and our things he can't. For example he has a cushion in his basket. Sometimes he sucks on it to calm him down, other times he'll attack it and get the stuffing out (which I pop back in) but he's never touched any of our cushions or pillows.

I buy either the toys that have a ball in the centre so there is less stuffing and we still have something to play afterwards, or the very cheap burger/cakes they do in Pets at Home (£1 or £2) as a £10 'tuff toy' will suffer the same fate so I may as well save my money while he still gets his fun.

@LittleLongDog I have two mini wires, they are the most toy destructive dogs I have ever known! They can ferret out a squeaker in minutes. Luckily, destruction limited only to toys 🤞

The current Best Things In The World for my two are oddly a pair of A5 sized flannelette bags with elasticated tops, that our IKEA sofa legs came in... Chuck a couple of treats in them and they're quiet for at least ten minutes!

I often pop a treat back in the skin of his latest de stuffed toy and then put all the stuffing back in.

I agree with Muffinbutton about Ikea. Our sheltie is soft toy obsessed and Ikea ones manage to survive being thrown around. Their soft ball with a bell in the middle is the current favourite. Reasonably priced too which helps as they don't last long! We bulk buy to avoid running out of favourites.
