The doghouse

Dog sitting and she seems ill

I'm looking after a friend's westie for five days, picked her up lastnight. She pants an awful lot, drinks water constantly and had accidents in the night. My friend did warn me she drank a lot and wanted food constantly and said the vet suspected Cushing's disease. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience of Cushing's in their dog. I don't want to do the wee thing more harm by taking her on long walks if that's not good for her or what not. Looked after her last year and she was definitely not like this so I think it's a fairly recent onset.

Could you contact your friend and tell her you are worried?

Thanks Flickeyflack, I could but I am really loathe to ruin her few days away with her dh, she has been pretty ill herself recently. I suppose I'm wondering if these are just the regular Cushing's symptoms and not new ones. I may take wee dog to my own vet tomorrow for a look over. He is brilliant and saved my cat last year.

Westies are prone to diabetes, excessive thirst and hunger being symptoms. It sounds like he could with a check up.
