Ten year old spaniel poodle mixel has gone from passive and fairly quiet to a barking at everything( doorbells on TV even) nipping my children and jumping up .Goes absolutely balistic with yelping excitement when lead is produced. Nothng else has changed .Is it just his way of saying I may as well do as I please now I am elderly.?

They might if they have aches and pains or if they have dementia.

I never knew dogs got dementia. Maybee that is it !
He is completely disobedient, just like a puppy.
I'm guessing there is no treatment ?

Only if there is a reason so I would get a vet check.

Dementia is only one of many things, their hearing may be going so they get confused and bark at familiar things as they sound different. Pain can also cause dogs to react differently eg growling or nipping when touched.

Tbh 10 is not really old so I would be concerned and want to get things checked out.

Some dogs can become a bit fearful when they get older, which might be related to the other things mentioned on here.

Agree with getting him checked at the vet.

Any behavoural changes in a dog should be investigated. Barking and nipping could be pain related.

I have just been to the vet for a rabies jab and health check and all was good aside needing his teeth scaled.
I should have mentioned it. He has always hated the vet so behaved consitently.
