9wk puppy - pooing 3-4 times per night.

I'd really appreciate some feeding advice/reassurance for our new puppy please.

Puppy is 9wks, we've had him for 1 week. He came from a very good friend who has given him and his family nothing but the best. He is lovely, happy, playful and is healthy, bright eyes, pink gums, wet cold nose, happy to be handled/frisked! However he's had loose poos over a week now. About 5 per 24hrs, mostly of a night and one first thing of a morning.

Our days consist of playing, training, sleeping, eating and little trips out to get new experiences (with me carrying him). So he is getting exercise and stimulation.

He gets fed at 7am/1pm/7pm.

Since weening he has been eating everything outside from grass, leaves, blackberries, twigs, etc. Breeder/friend spoke to vet who said not to worry as he is healthy it's just his system getting exposure to new bacteria, etc) and to give him 2mls of Pro-Kolin twice a day.

Obviously since, he came home to us he has been trying all new bacteria covered plants in our garden too so his tummy is still ick.

He let's me know when he wants to go outside so for example last night it was 11pm, 2am & 4am and then when we got up at 6.30am and nothing since. Apart from when he is napping I am taking him out to the garden every 20 minutes but no poos so far.

Friend and other dog owning friends have all said not to worry but I am concerned.

So should I give him his last feed earlier in the day? Fast him from now (3pm) till morning? Or put him on chicken and rice for a couple of days?

If it were me I would call my own vet and have him checked out. He’ll need to go anyway for his vaccinations?

I definitely wouldn’t fast him without medical say so. Young puppies need feeding little and often to keep their blood sugars level and to stop them forming too much bile and ring sick.

We had this when we bought our pup home, had a vet check and they said to fed a bland diet, pumpkin and tuna. Fed this for about a week then slowly introduced her normal food in once poos had firmed up. We fed little and often, so 5/6 times a day. Our pup still has a delicate tummy, so is only on a fish base kibble, as it turn out chicken didn't agree with her.

He's just done a normal-for-puppy poo! I've never been so happy to see a turd before . Hopefully this is a sign he's getting back to normal.

The vets wasn't too concerned. Suggested bland diet as you said. He (pooch not vet) would eat anything which I think is his problem. I was told not to take anything out of his mouth as it can create defensive behaviour...so I've been running around trying to distract him from blackberries, leaves and the like all week. With that and the nightly toilet outings I am exhausted!

I think I'll make his last feed around 6pm until he wakes tomorrow.

My pup had this. Mixture of 8 week wormer and stress of travel/home.

Vets advised bland dry food, no training treats and just to make sure they’re drinking plenty of water to avoid dehydration. We need a pic too!

Thanks notaboxer. He seems absolutely fine..it's just his bum! But since my original post he's done 2 normal poos so I think we're back on target. Thanks for the reassurance, I really appreciate it. Here's a photo of Maeb Jr!

Can I ask what a normal puppy poo is? Our pup is 10 weeks old and I'd say his poos are still soft. They are definitely formed but soft and it's hard to pick them up. I always imagined they would be hard and easy to pick up!
