The doghouse

sad little puppy

I feel like I'm constantly wanting to start threads here atm!

Beachpup is 4 months old, been with us since 9 weeks. We've just got back from 2 nights at the inlaws (with her) - long journey, staying at their house (with their dog too), obviously lots of change to her normal schedule! She was a bit cautious but fab and settled pretty well.

We're back at home and chilling on the sofa now. She's dozing but just seems a bit sad (and is also whining every time I leave the room, which is very unusual!), which I'm assuming is part of settling back in at home and that she's a bit unsure and disorientated.

Unfortunately we have to go away this weekend for a wedding, and will be leaving her (at home, in the care of an adult she knows, but without us). I hate that we can't explain to them what is happening...

Does anyone have any helpful hints for this? I'm stressing myself out over it I think.

A lot of dogs needs a time of adjustment when they've had to stay away from home and might be a bit clingy for a while, especially when they're young.

Keep everything very calm when you leave her and when you get back. And try not to stress about it - easier said than done - because she will pick up on your stress.

You're leaving her in her own home with someone she knows, it's hardly the worst thing that could happen to her. She'll be fine.

My dog sometimes has to go into kennels. She always seems very happy with the place when I pick her up - usually going back for a last goodbye before she leaves them - but then she always seems a bit quiet and sad when we're back home. I sometimes wonder if she's missing the excitement.

You're probably be more stressed about the whole thing than she will be.

Enjoy the wedding.

Thank you for your reassurance @pigsDOfly ! I have tried to Remain Calm, and she's been her usual happy self today which bodes well.

Dogs are not humans or babies. She has not got the thought process you're assigning to her. If she's fed, walked and fussed she ll be fine!
