Saying goodbye

I think I need a bit of a hand hold! My ancient Labrador has had enough I think. He’s going on 15 and over the weekend his health rapidly declined. I’m having to help him stand up, he’s unable to get comfy while lying down. He’s wondering around in a state of confusion. So, I've phoned the vets and they’re going to come to my house tomorrow morning to pts.

Such a difficult decision though! I’m so worried that he’s not ready to go. Last year I lost my DM and my other, lovely, 5 year old Labrador to cancer. Saying goodbye is so unbelievably hard.

Oh what a gorgeous boy! He has aged so well!

Its always a horrible decision to make but as his Mum, you have to make the decision to take away his pain, even if it causes you some. As they say ' better a day early than a minute late'.

He sounds like he has had a great life, and been well loved and he will even have his little brother in doggy heaven waiting for him.

I think having it done at home, in familiar surrounding with familiar smells, surrounded by the people he loved, is a lovely way to go to sleep for the last time.

I think you know it is the right time, but its devastating because you've had so much loss recently.

I'll be thinking of you Flowers

I can only send you and dog lots of hugs, really hard to say anything else. He is soo beautiful.
Such a hard decision to make and it comes down to how independent can he be whilst having the quality of life which is stuff you know already.
I’ll hold your hand in the virtual sense Flowers
I’d definitely sleep downstairs with him tonight and spend every minute in his company.

You obviously love and care for your boy, OP, so if you've come to the conclusion that now is the time I have no doubt at all that it's the right one for him.

Big hugs, it never gets any easier. xx

Oh I am so with you - such a difficult time. I went through it a few years a go with my chocolate lab aged 16 and now looking at my yellow boy who is also ancient and getting close.

Very similar situation with the being unable to stand etc etc but I expect still wagging his tail and eating well. Labs can be so brave.

You are doing the right thing - although it is heartbreaking.

I wish I could do anything to make it easier for you.

My old guy went resting his head on my knee and eating custard - he almost sighed in relief and just was at peace and pain free.

What an absolutely gorgeous boy. Such a hard decision, but it sounds like the right one, made for ask the best reasons. It's the very last (and hardest) act of love we do for our dogs isn't it. Am sending you virtual hugs and a hand hold, and I'm so sorry you've had so much to deal with recently.

Well, it’s been done. Thank you for your kind words. He started to wag his tail as he slipped away. It’s a massive comfort to us all that he is now back with his best friend. I can almost see them running around the garden together playing with their tug rope.❤️

I'm so sorry. Labradors are the absolute best, aren't they?

I am so sorry. Even when it's absolutely the right thing to do it's still so bloody hard.

That’s so hard OP [Flowers]. I really feel for you but what a fab life he must have had to get to that age.

I am dreading it with my almost 15 year old lab, I am making the most of every day, every walk or trip to the beach.

Oh they are so gorgeous! I bet they gave you many laughs over the years, they looked like a mischievous tag team! It’s the last kind thing that we do for our best friends, always so hard though. Flowers

So sorry for your loss. It's one of the hardest decisions to make but it's a final kindness for your beloved boy, no more pain.
I like the idea of the rainbow bridge, all our pets are happy there and overjoyed when they are finally reunited with us x
