Got the insurance renewal through this morning, and it's jumped from £620 for the year to £940. No claims made within the last year, DDog is only 6.
Have compared online with alternatives, and the same cover, with the same insurer is £800. BUT if I cancel the existing policy and take out a new one I have that annoying 14 period of no cover.
I've called the insurers (Tesco) and they just said last year I had a new customer discount and wouldn't match the online price.
I said fine, I'll just get the new policy and start it 14 days before the renewal date so I wouldn't have a gap in cover, but was then told I would invalidate myself by having 2 policies
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I am loathe to pay the renewal, but don't know how to get round it?
I remember last year I switched from John Lewis to Tesco after a similar hike in cost, as they were identical covers both underwritten by RSA, and I think I just crossed my fingers and hoped during the 14 days exclusion period. It make me edgy doing that though!
