Sore patch on leg ...

DDog has a sore patch on a joint on a front leg. She has been licking & making it raw, so I put the "cone of shame" on, and it seemed to have healed over nicely after 2 days.

Took cone off, & she's licked it raw again. Anyone got any helpful advice?

I think if I bandage it, she will still continue to lick the bandage.

I don’t want to scare you, but do look up Alabama Rot.

It might be nothing, but see if it looks like it.

If she's had it for several days it's very unlikely to be Alabama Rot.

Could be a hot spot - have you tried hibiscrub?

Is it low enough that you can cover it with a sock (sprayed with bitter apple)?

Assuming this is nothing more than a lick sore (really common) then even though it healed over, it was probably still irritating her, and will do so until it is fully healed or near enough. You can get a hydrocortisone spray or cream for dogs that will eliminate the irritation, but you will still need to also cover the area and prevent the dog from licking it or it will simply get worse. I would cover it with gauze and use veterinary tape - or self adhering bandage is exactly the same. And she's going to have to learn to live with the "shame" until it's healed!

Thanks everyone for the advice - have ordered some self-adhering bandage online.
