I've just pulled a worm out of my dogs fur/skin. :-O I'm out at the moment walking her to go pick up DS but when I get in I'll have a closer look. I bagged it up. Barf!!!

I thought she had a bit of food or something near her ear but when I went to pick it up it didn't come right away and I realised it was something poking out of her! If I remember right it was about two inches long, kind of flat, and had lines/ridges across it.

Do I need to take her to the vet? Or will regular drontal worming stuff do the trick?

I have a pretty strong stomach but this has really grossed me out that it was coming out of her fur!

If it’s actually come out of her skin through a hole then yes you need a vet , are you sure it’s not just something she’s rolled in ?

I am pretty sure I actually pulled it out of her. :-O She's a very short haired dog and I had to give a fair bit of a tug and felt resistance. Urgh. I'm really grossed out by it! If it was in her poop I'd probably not be so thrown by it.

When I get home I'll inspect her on the area I found it and take a close look at her skin.

Google image search says it's an earthworm in which case it did not come from under your dog's skin. Aside from maggots (and this doesn't look like one), I don't think there are a lot worms that live under the skin, but maybe call you vet for advice?

Looks like a leech to me.

I wonder if it is just an earthworm stuck to the fir. A lot of dogs (mine included ) like rolling on worms and worm casts for some reason.

It probably is a leech, especially as you had to pull it quite hard to detach it.

I think it's @Lweji who is the MN worm expert.
