Pet insurance advice

I currently have a lifetime policy with Lifetime Pets Cover. I took the policy out last year, its up for renewal in September. I received a letter a few months after I'd taken out the insurance to say the company had gone bankrupt and all policies were being transferred to another holder but policies would remain the same. It's made me a bit dubious about whether claims would be paid so I was thinking of changing provider once the renewal is up. Has anyone got a policy with them and stayed/decided to change?

I pay £12.95 for up to £4000 per illness/accident. I was having a look today and more than have a policy for £10.71 for £8000 per claim but not lifetime. Am I better sticking with a lifetime cover? My dog is only 2 so not had to claim yet but looking towards older age where ongoing conditions may come in to play. Any recommendations for providers I could look at?

Have you been to the vets for ANY issue in that time? If you have be careful that any new policy you take out may have exclusions put on it as anything noted by the vet even if you never claimed and wasn't even an issue at the time could be precluded as a pre existing condition. For example a bout of D&V could preclude any gastric conditions or a limp any joint or leg issues. Better to find out now than when you claim as they will ask for a 'full' history from your vet on your first claim.

As for lifetime policies yes get one if you move as a yearly policy isn't worth it in my opinion as you end up with exclusions (see above) and if your dog does develop a chronic condition it could also prove costly as some medications etc are very expensive.
