Room smells of dog wee

Hi

Just wanting some advice. We bought our house just before Christmas and as soon we walked into it there was a strong smell of dog wee (it didn't when we looked around). We realised it was coming from one of the bedrooms.

Ended up having to get a new carpet and underlay and had the room decorated. The smell then went. Since it's been getting warmer we have had the windows opened. When the window in open in that room or the fan is on the smell comes back. It's a really strong smell. It doesn't not happen in any other room.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get rid of it? As I said we have replaced carpet and underlay. Someone suggested the dog might have wee'd on the walls. It doesn't smell unless the fan is on or the window is open.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of it? We have tried different sprays etc but nothing has worked.

Have you tried a dog urine specific enzyme cleaner?

Is it possible the urine has soaked into the floorboards? Envy

Are you sure it's dog wee? Apparently some paints have a strange lingering odour. Also faulty electrical appliances can give off a fishy smell (you said you could smell it when the fan is on). With everything you've done, I would be looking for another culprit.
Also, if they had a piddly dog, it would be all over the house, surely? Not just in one room.

Thanks for replying. Yes we tried a dog urine cleaner but it didn't work. I don't think it had gone through to the floor boards as we checked when we changed the carpet but it might be worth checking it again incase we missed it.

I didn't think about it being something else but you could be right. It just smells so much like dog wee. We did have to change the carpet in the hall as it smelt quite bad by the front door but that has been fine since. Apparently this was the dog's bedroom so that might be why it was mainly in one room, I got the impression they locked their dog in there on a night.

With regards to the paint we had some other rooms painted in the same the paint at the same time and they don't smell and we have used the fan in the other room and again it doesn't smell. But I guess that doesn't mean it's not one of them.

I really appreciate you posting though. I will try again using another dog urine specific enzyme cleaner and will check the other electrical appliances.

Thanks again.
