Anyone else's pup absolutely desperate to go for a walk in this horrible heat?

I have a (very fluffy) Pomeranian who jumps up and scratches my leg when he wants to go for a walk and has been doing so for the last half an hour. Poor pup doesn't understand that it's far too hot.
I feel so mean!

Of course, I'll take him this evening when if it cools down, but judging by the forecast it'll still be too hot at 10pm!

My 13yo dachshund fortunately is happily basking in a spot of sunshine. He had a frozen bone outside earlier, which he sensibly took under the garden table to gnaw.

Would a slow sniffy walk in a nice shaded wood be any good?

I prefer the early morning for walks, it was lovely at 7 this morning.
I bought my dog a puppy paddling pool and she has spent several hours playing in it so far today, which seems to have worn her out. Just off to stick my feet in it!

Just thought I'd add a pic.

Yep, billypup is alternating between sunbathing and getting ridiculously hot then seeking refuge in the hall.

Agree with PP that early morning is much better than evening as the heat builds throughout the day.
It was lovely and cool in the woods at 7am today, my dogs did a bit of running about but mostly barked at squirrels and sniffed.

Morning walks are the most important in this weather I think.

I was up and out by 6am with mine and even then it was warm!

He does have morning walks too Smile

The wooded shaded area used to be great but then we had a baby and now it's like a military operation getting them out of the house together and the closest area like that is about a 10 min car drive, then you have to walk through a lot of open park before you reach the shaded woodlands - not ideal Sad

Luckily because he's so small he can race around the garden/house on a mad one if he needs to. Our living room stays really cool too so he can recover in there once he's burnt of some excess energy

I hate this weather! Having to get up at 5 to walk the dogs after limited sleep due to thunder. The dogs love it a nice cool walk then sleep all day in the heat then up and ready for another walk at 10 ish this evening.

I am knackered Smile

It was a relief to get out at 6.30 this morning as house was so hot. Cool and damp in the woods after last night's storm. Dogs are now sunbathing in the garden.

It's exhausting!

It's meant to be 27 degrees here tomorrow which means I'll be up and at the beach for 6/7am because it's just too hot otherwise...

My collie is sensible, he's made a den in the garden under a bush and is snoozing there during the day, but he loves nocturnal walks, so many night creatures!

My girl wont go in her paddling pool, which isnt a surprise as I buy one every year and she never goes in. Grin

She gets a walk very early on and about 9 ish, she spends the rest of the day laying on the couch with a fan directed at her face. She loves it. If the fan is switched off when she takes her position for the day she will bark until someone comes along and turns it on!

I'm hating it too. Bella is terrified by thunderstorms so sat with her 1am until 5am whilst she paced or panted on my lap and then because it was light she thought it was time for me to get up so wouldn't settle when I tried to go to bed.

BastardPup is struggling. He is hot and bothered and his routine is shot because it is the first week of the school holidays and we are all here. He has just conked out on the sofa - hoping he has a nice long nap

Yep! Even indoors we are roasting- keep putting his cooling mat in and out of the fridge to lay on. He seems quite miserable

My woggles is upstairs in a room with air conditioning keeping it at 21 for her while she lies on a cool mat.

I am in the office working where it's 29 degrees HmmShock

Ddog will not go on a cool mat. We did not walk last night as I felt unwell with a migraine. He will lick ice cubes but won’t willingly go in water

Today I bathed him in very shallow like warm water and towel dried, he is now laying on the damp towel by the fan

Until the bath he just kept flopping around on the floor sighing but the bath has given him a new energy and he’s running around all excited Hmm

I’ve got a Pomeranian too, they’re not hot weather dogs, mine is happiest when it snows. I got up at 6.30am this morning to get her out for a walk before it got too hot, I’ll probably do the same for the rest of the week. I also gave her a bath to cool her down and she’s been hanging out in the shade or in front of the fan all day.

@PookieDo our DDog gave me a heart attack last year by chewing his cool mat up and started licking at the gel inside. Never again!

@BarkandCheese agreed - I have the funniest videos of zoomies in the heavy snow we had in 2017!

I’ve been getting up at 6am to walk the dog before DH goes to work at 7! Bloody tiring with a four month old. He’s a working breed and is unbearable if he had to wait until the evening!
