Has this happened to anybody else's dog?

It only happens in the summer when the sun is shining on the astro.

Yes I find if I am sitting on the grass and go to stroke him I get a shock. Interestingly it doesn't seem to bother him at all.

Are you sure it's a shock and not a temperature burn?

I don't think this ours is connected to the sun though. More like a static shock you get from certain clothes and materials when you rub against them and get a static build up.

we do agility on an astro turf area and in the autumn and winter and spring Ddog is fine but when the summer comes, he goes onto the astro and pretty much stops (unless it's in the shade).

The trainer and I have felt the surface and we are confident that it is not too hot (this is evening time so not heat of the day). All the other dogs are still happy to take part but Ddog will only work on the surface that is in the shade and the trainer believes he is getting shocks.

Different breeds have different fur/hair composition don't they? I'm assuming that's why it affects my boy and not the others in our class.

Does he have furry paws? If so you could get the fur trimmed a bit to see if it helps.
