Eater Of Toys

He actually eats them, tiny bite-size pieces at a time it's like a compulsion. So as soon as I see any damage to a toy it gets binned. Sometimes a toy a day, but sometimes a week. He has his old favourites that he must hold in esteem, because they're eaten more slowly. It seems like I'm forever rummaging around in his gullet to retrieve slimy bits of material.

Please could anyone recommend any really tough toys other than the quite dull ropes and various rubber shapes, or is that my only option now? He even managed to nibble his way through part of a kevlar duck from Pets At Home, and look at what he did to his new "tough" toy he got on Sunday.

His shits are always decorated with whatever colour toy du jour happens to be, and sometimes I have to "help".

The only non destructive toys we have found are west paws zogoflex range, kong traxx and chuckit ultra balls.

Nope. Mine eat everything. But baby toys from the car boot last longer than dog toys as they're made to a better standard.

We only buy antlers and bison horns. We have a couple of extreme Kongs too.

Mine doesn't get toys anymore - too dangerous.

We have antlers, buffalo horns and loads of other natural chews though, as well as frozen kongs.

Antlers, buffalo horns, nylabones and kongs are the only survivors in this house.

He has buffalo horns, nylabones (eats them though) yakker chews, bulls willies, rope pull toys, Kongs and balls. I just though he'd need something small and soft to play with - I forgot to say, he's only a puppy, 8 months old.

At that age we also gave him cardboard tubes as it doen't matter if he eats them.

Keep the soft toys only for play with you then put them away (throw a treat across the room to distract him as you take it away and hide it).

My dog likes to remove the eyes, then pull stuffing out via the face.

Been doing it for over a decade, still going strong.

AS a puppy she loves empty lemonade bottles, slightly crushed. Hours of chasing the bottle, which Is difficult to bite. She was also partial to shoes, expensive ones!

Mine eat everything. Nylabone included. I got too anxious about any potential bowel blockage. Anyone else concerned? Our local pet shop has some sort of vegan or vegetarian chew that degrades in the gut more easily. We've started getting these.

Mine gas a similar system too Iris. With his squeaky lobster it went: eyes, legs, the claws eaten last. In the end it was just an oval blob, but it still had its embroidered smile. I had to take it way once he'd got into the body.

I'm going to try some of those rope toys knotted into balloon animal type shapes.

He loves eating the rose bushes too, because he likes the taste of the aphids. He discovered his love of aphids from following me around the garden while I pinch them off the plants and demanding to lick them off my fingers.

Mine chews soft toys and pulls out the squeaks/rope/stuffing and looks rather surprised but I get quite tough ones that take her a while to get into. I am getting quite good at mending them as she loves them dearly and sometime takes them to bed with her.

She also likes to eat thyme from my thyme bush. I wish she liked aphids - that would be so much more useful and I have millions just now.

He eats all the new shoots as well as the aphids though mrsjoy. If he could just learn to lick them off like an anteater.

I've just ordered him this new toy. It looks quite tough? I'm probably deluded though. I'll give up and just stick to ropes and rubber shapes if he eats this one. Oh, he LOVED the plastic bottle, and ate the lid.

He's not a big jawsey breed or anything. But he is a terrier with a strong prey drive.

Mine will destroy anything until she gets the squeaker out. Once it's out she happy not to kill it any more. Maybe try non squeaky ones?

I would try more enrichment rather than "toys" as such.

Hopefully this will keep your dog entertained but give him something else to do rather than eat the toy.

Can you use the soft toys for hiding and letting your dog sniff them out and not to leave them with unsupervised.

He doesn't discriminate against squeaky toys, they all get the same treatment. In fact the only squeaky toy he hasn't eaten is a flimsy squeaking rubber chicken. He carries it around in his mouth and nuzzles it . He gave in to nibbling temptation though yesterday band ate its foot.

Stanley, he has all of the things you've listed, even one with little levers he has to press to get treats. And I put a spoon of (salt and sweetener and of course palm oil free) peanut butter in his buffalo horns.

I suppose it's me anthropomorphising him, thinking he needs something vaguely cuddly with a face.
