We have had our 12 week old Golden Retriever for two weeks and we introduced him to Royal Canine dry food on advice from the vets.
He developed watery bloody stools and we went to the vet who advised us it was the stress of moving to a new home and to put him on chicken and rice which we did
It cleared up and put him back on his food and the bleeding started again so we took him back to the vet who said put him back on the chicken and rice and give him pancur for three days and also gave us a pro biotic for four days
Well we had a different puppy he was bouncy and seemed more puppy like and the bleeding has stopped so we have reintroduced the Royal canine again and today the bleeding is back do you think it could be the food ?
Our puppy is still bouncy and happy but I'm worried that he won't be for long.

RC isn't rated very highly on there and perhaps your dog is sensitive to one of the ingredients.

Also dry dog food tends to be quite hard on the stomach.

We found when we switched to a good quality wet food (millies wolfheart, forthglade etc) my dogs stomach was much better for it.

RC isn't the best and is far more expensive than its quality deserves. You want a food without grain preferably. I too think wet is best, but not absolutely necessary for dogs (imo it is for cats). Here are some quality UK brands

Sorry to hear your puppy is having bloody stools. My 11 week old puppy is also on Royal Canine as that’s what the breeder had her on. DartyPup appears to have no problem with it at all but it’s good to get the above advice and recommendations.

Another one who swapped to Millies Wolfheart.

My lovely Lab is 7 now so it was quite a few years ago ,but we did a straight swap after speaking with the Millies team as he was suffering so badly .
He improved within days .

There's a lot of information on their website but they are also have someone you can speak to about nutrition by phone or email.

I've 4 on it now & they are all in awesome condition with perfect poo

Millies here too. Switched to countryside kibble and runny poop/smelly wind disappeared in 2-3 days. He's 5 now and still on millies kibble.

I've got a Golden Retriever and she's sensitive to anything too fatty as it brings on pancreatitis (loose bloody stools, vomiting etc). A lot of Royal Canin dried food has a high fat content. We have ours on a veterinary diet, but we also mix it with Fisherman's Finest which is low fat.

Why do you keep going back to the Royal Canin food if this happens every time. It isn't great as it's full of wheat, which a lot of dogs can't tolerate.

My dog has flare ups of pancreatitis every so often and can't take dry food, yet a vet I saw recently kept insisting that she should be on a low fat dry food - she's on a low fat wet food and unless she picks up something that triggers the pancreatitis does really well on it.

Try a better quality food, one without wheat, introduce it slowly over one to two weeks, and you might find it the bloody stools don't reappear.

I see all about dog food has already been recommended,it's a brilliant site & really easy to use with the foods being rated by and the ingredients listed with links to the additives that are not recommended for dogs.

• note also that RC lists meat but not % of it & that it uses "meat meal" which can be anything.

Pigs we put him back on it twice hoping it would be solved with the advice and treatment from the vets.
This third time we have decided that it has got to be domestic do with the food so we will start again back on the chicken and pasta and reintroduce a different food.

I'm glad he's persuaded you,he's so healthy & a fine looking boy . People never believe he's 7 ,they always think he's between 18 months & 2 .
Then we show them the white whiskers that are appearing on his chin !

Have a read of the site when you get chance as you'll probably need to adjust the quantity you feed ,the higher meat content foods you feed less.
We weigh out daily amount & then feed it over the day either in their bowls ,kongs or as treats .
You don't need a topper but I do ,either animonda lamb ,fish ,grated cheese ,meat or veg because they are spoilt rotten

Its a bonus that it's VAT free & I would put money on you noticing a difference in your dogs coat & poo too .

We had to hose down before Millies as there was literally was nothing solid to pick up
His belly would bloat & we could see he was so uncomfortable after eating.

I couldn't believe the difference a food could make & how quickly it happened,I was a bit obsessed & had a little air punch with the first solid poo !

We have a GR and he was very sensitive to his food (he came weaned onto Arden Grange). We fed him Eden for a while, using the website mentioned by PP which was very helpful. We made the switch to raw last year with no incident. Eden agreed with him but he hated it. Hope your pup is better soon.

I went with wainwright’s because I had the option of being able to get the grain free if it didn’t agree with him but I didn’t realise that you could only get it from pets at home because we only got a small bag to try him on and we have no more blood or diarrhoea
But if that’s not really any good I will have to find something better that also has to be easy to get because I’m not really near a lot of shops
