First jabs two weeks ago. Vet told me they now split jabs into three so that after the second one at ten weeks you can start road walking and socialising, with full protection for farms/areas with running water etc after the third jab which is for lepto at 12 weeks.
Had second jabs today and different vet said no just carry him til he’s had all three jabs.
Thoughts? I’m confused.

You can either ask again after the next jab, or just carry the puppy until after the third one. If in doubt I'd carry until the final one - think how heartbroken you'd be if he catches something when all you really need to do is enjoy fluffy cuddles for a bit longer...

I asked my vet to split the vaccinations into three so we could road walk one week after the second and then anywhere two weeks after the third.

It's difficult as you have been told different things and maybe it's a 'vets' interpretation as to the risk?? Could you phone and ask to speak to your original vet and check that you are ok to road walk after this second one? You could just say you didn't clarify it correctly at the appointment and just want confirmation.

It depends on the risks in your local area but if the third jan is just for lepton then it’s caught from contaminated water sources/urine so the risks in urban areas are fairly small.

1/3 of dogs under 3 years old in the uk die as a result of behaviour issues and proper socialising can help so much with preventing behaviour problems, so it’s about weighing ups risks

Thanks for these replies. I called up and explained the two pieces of advice I had received. The person I spoke to said it would be fine to road walk the day after the second vaccines.

My second had the same jabs as this. It is fine to walk a week/10 days after 2 jab (which covers for parvo) so you can start socialising etc. Just avoid water as the 3rd jab covers lepto

Confused again.... didn’t know there was a wait time after the jab??

I've always been told to wait a week/10
Days for jab to take effect

A week after second jab here too, avoid water/farms until 3rd jab.

Yes we had to wait a week after the second.

It was also two weeks after the lepto third one for boggy/watery walks.

Thanks everyone, so much contradictory information online, but I think I’ll carry him for a bit longer.

That’s a surprising statistic, do you have a link to the research? Thanks

@PhoenixJasmine

Apologies I should have said England, not the UK

The most recent study is
Boyd, C., Jarvis, S., McGreevy, P. D., Heath, S., Church, D. B., Brodbelt, D. C., & O’Neill, D. (2018). Mortality resulting from undesirable behaviours in dogs aged under three years attending primary-care veterinary practices in England. Animal Welfare, 27(3), 251-262.

But this mirrors work done in other developed countries
