If you all know this I am sorry! My First time posting in the doghouse.
We have been having some financial difficulties and as the dog and cat insurance had gone up to £101 a month (DDog is now 12 and the DCat is 13) we were thinking of cancelling. I tried to get cheaper insurance but it was very confusing.

As our Daughter knows a vet we got chatting to her. She said she was with the same company (Tescos) and they were good at paying out..Told us not to touch the cheaper companies..

Anyway..she said call them and try to negotiate as we hadn't made any claims for 10+ years..guess what? Just saved ourselves £333 a year! Had to put the excess up but the monthly cost has come down..
Just got to hope they stay as healthy as they both have been.

If anyone else is in the same situation then maybe worth a try..

Make sure the don't deem this a 'new policy' and exclude all previous conditions. I have seen that with Tesco.

Yes as PP said I would be very clear when doing this that it must be a continuation of your policy and not a new one as 'anything' you have seen your vet about in the past, irrespective of whether you claimed or not, would then become a preexisting condition.

The monthly premium would come down with any policy provider if you increase your excess - same with any insurance (car/house).

Thank you for your advice.. I will call and clarify. Luckily we have very rarely seen the vets with either pet.. We did get a 15%discount as well. Bit peeved we had to ask for this! Did you know any better and/or cheaper insurance?

Out of interest what did your excess change from and to?

Tesco's are good from a cover point of view but you have re negotiate every year. If you don't have preexisting conditions use compare the market and buy a new policy starting 2 weeks before the old one expires

Excess for DDog went from £60 to £120 and DCat from £50 to £100..We also got a 15% discount because of using the Tesco clubcard..I did go to a comparison website which quoted £98 just for the dog!
It's so confusing but no insurance is just a no..I worked out that I have spent more than £7,000 on them..but worth every penny!
