Where to look for a lurcher puppy?

Having recently lost my old deerhound X I'm looking for a puppy. However a lot seems to have changed since we got our last dog 12 years ago! Where should I be looking for our next family companion?

Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher rescue. I foster puppies for them and it's rare we don't have any. My current one is 11 weeks old

I second Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher rescue, also I got my Lurcher puppy at 7 months from the Dog's Trust. :)

Rescue - every single one will have lurchers, in fact I'd say lurchers are almost as plentiful as Staffies/Staffie crossbreeds in rescues. Dogs Trust have 99 lurchers listed on their website, Battersea is mostly lurchers. There must be one there that is perfect for you!

Sorry about not coming back to the thread! I'm not sure if a rescue would re home to me...... Small children seem to be a no no for them.

Just had a look at the Battersea website. They have some really gorgeous young lurchers there. Good thing I’m on the other side of the world

Even big rescues will consider small children IF they have dogs they think can cope with small children, and ideally the small children themselves are dog-savvy, which it sounds as though yours are if they've had a dog previously? As long as they think your family can cope with the boisterous nature of a lively puppy plus the boisterous nature of small children without having a complete meltdown and returning the dog, they'll consider you.

To be fair, a good breeder will be as cautious as a rescue!
