Dog has developed a revolting habit of digging up and eating cat poo in the garden 🤢

Keeping the dog out of garden isn’t really an option, DH likes to keep the doors open, I can’t supervise 24/7.

Obvious hygiene risks aside it’s disgusting and it’s not something I’m willing to allow. Makes me physically sick looking at her tbh.

So, is there some way of creating a kitty toilet in the garden that is dog proof?!

Ours likes to try a bit of poo from every animal species it can find, either eaten or rolled in, or so it seems. Cat, dog, deer, cow, fox. F'ing fox poo.

Mine loves cow and horse poo. I think you have to get used to 'disgusting' when you own a dog

My dog loves to eat poo. I just left him to it until he started pestering the cat whenever he wanted the toilet. He was treating him like his own poo dispensing machine-it was disgusting and stressing the cat out.

In the end I put a cat flap in my shed door and put a litter tray in there. (Cat will not use a litter tray in the house..he’s quite an odd cat) The cat is far happier-especially as the shed is south facing and has a potting shelf to sun bathe on.

I don’t think your dog will get ill from eating poo. Mine still finds plenty to snack on when we’re out on our walks. 🤢

The dog doesn’t pester her or anything but where the garden is all loose soil now (we’re redoing the garden) the cat is pooing all over and the dog’s new favourite hobby is rifling through the soil in search of turds 🤢

It wasn’t a problem before because the dog is trained not to go into my borders (where the cat would toilet)

Either fence off a small part of the garden for the dog or keep the door shut. You would need to never leave the dog out there alone to prevent this.

Buy an outdoor cat litter tray. It's got a weird opening so cats can get in but dogs can't - unless they're really small!!

Our cat often brings up a whole meal straight after eating it. The dog follows her around urging her to give it to him, please.

When i first got my dog as a puppy I had two elderly cats who no longer went out much and so had to have litter trays.

The first time I saw the dog eating the cats' poo it actually made me feel sick. I never got used to it and for the rest of the cats' lives it was a race between me and the dog as to who got to the litter trays first. Dog was always trying to eat the cats' food as well.

Unfortunately, cat poo smells and tastes of cat food so it's impossible to deter a dog who's got a taste for it.

If your cat poos in the garden it's going to go where ever it likes, as I've found from my neighbours' cats who use my garden as their lavatory, so other than training your cat to go in a closed in litter tray, you're pretty much going to have to accept the fact that dogs are disgusting creatures and sometimes you just have to turn a blind eye to the more vile aspects of their personalities.

Dogs are utterly minging aren't they? Ours eats cat pooh too. However, on the plus side, I'm very impressed that your cat poohs in your garden - I wish our bloody neighbours cats would - they crap all over our garden and then our horrible dog goes out and eats it all.
