My little dog is OBSESSED with, what one was a full sized chew, but is now a small rectangle of dirty, chewed up rawhide.

He goes to find it in the morning and his tail wags like crazy when he find it. He brings it to me and pesters me to throw it around for him.

He has had this for around 3 months now and it’s getting smaller, so goodness know what he will do when it’s gone.

Why does my dog love that particular chew so much and does your dog have any other funny obsessions?

Mine is completely obsessed with a specific glow in the dark ball... Thankfully it's not slowly disappearing like your dog's chew!

I don't know if you're aware, but there are some debates over the safety of rawhide, partly due to the ingredients and partly due to the risk of chewing and intestinal blockages. I prefer to give mine things like pizzle sticks and dried tripe instead.

To be honest, I’m not sure what it’s made from. I used rawhide as a generic descriptor. But I didn’t know that, so I will check carefully in future. I just had a quick google and have seen the problems.

I have attached a pic of his obsession. Does it look like rawhide?

Looks rawhidey to me.

Mine loves her antler. I got her a pig's ear and she was like meh...

She loves smartbones a rawhide alternative but they last sexonds.!

Funny things they are!

Mine was obsessed with dishcloths as a puppy (those blue disposable ones). Woe betide you if you left it anywhere near the edge of a work surface, she would go to great lengths to get it. So, I gave her an old white flannel as a kind of substitute. That is now her 'blanky' and is one of her favourite posessions. She carries it around and frequently lick, sucks and chews it. It is now a filthy rag that, quite frankly, looks disgusting.
Rawhide chews are quite dangerous op, especially when they get to the small and slimy last stage. I had a Yorkie choke on one (not fatally, but it was a worrying few minutes). As I got hold of it and pulled it back up her throat it was amazing the size she had tried to swallow which had got lodged sideways in her throat. I never buy them now. Also an awful lot of really dangerous chemicals are used in their production, which are still present on the chew and are also environmentally polluting. I know your dog may love it, but get rid of it.
Try deer antler instead.

Thanks all - will get rid. He also loves grabbing towels from the kitchen...they’re alway scattered on the kitchen floor.

I don't know what I did wrong with ddog2 but she never plays with toys. Ddog2 loves toys, flinging them about, chasing them, tug etc. But try and play toys with Ddog2 and she just looks at me like Confused

However, if something accidently gets left on the floor such as a ball of tin foil or a square of cardboard, or a sock... She goes mad, flings it about and chases it for ages.

Strange little creature.

Also DDog1 always destroys his toys. His main goal is to get the stuffing and squeaker out in under 10 minutes. I got him this pig toy for Christmas and he loves it. Hasn't chewed it up or pulled its squeaker out. He even take sit to his bed. It bloody stinks but I'm worried if I wash it he won't like it anymore. He still continues to destroy other new toys, but never the pig.

Ours loves teddies - the bigger the better! My DS recently showed him a massive floppy dog in a charity shop and he went so mad for it that we had to buy it even though it was nearly the same size as him. He carried it round for the rest of the day, much to the amusement of everyone we passed, and he now runs to fetch it to show anyone who comes to the house.

There are two specific field gates near me that SquirrelDog likes to stand at. If we go past them we always have to go over, even if it means crossing the road, so he can stare through them into the field behind. I don't think he's looking at anything specific, he's just...checking? Hmm One of the fields has two horses in (he's not looking at them, too busy doing his thoughtful gaze into the distance), and they have started turning to stare at us as though they're thinking 'why are those two weirdos hanging around again?' Sometimes it's even worse and the owner of the horses is there too. I worry that she thinks I'm loitering suspiciously with a view to stealing them. Blush

Our is obsessed with toilet roll/tissue.
Any chance he gets he will steal some. Has led to some very unsavoury acts like stealing from an unflushed toilet Shock. Making me pry some one else's used hanky from his mouth used to be his party trick when we went out for a walk, thankfully that part as got better.

Maggie is obsessed with socks and plant pots. She's completely wrecked any plant pots she's found in the garden, and they will amuse her for ages.

God knows where she finds all the socks, but am always finding odd socks in her bed or in the yard. This morning we played tug of war with me trying to put my socks on my feet and her trying to pull them off. Just as well I love her really.

I bought a ridiculous amount of toys when I got my boy - none of which he was remotely interested in! He does love digging holes in my garden though...

My dogs hobbies include:

  • nicking DH's socks off his feet
  • licking the chocolate off hobnobs
  • disappearing into the hole he's dug under the garden shed
  • barking at squirrels/birds/the cat
  • refusing to eat his dinner but telling the cats off if they dare come within five feet of said dinner

Mine will hunt down tea towels as soon as she is in anyone’s house. I’ve always left mine hanging at the cooker. She thinks there may be the most minute piece of food debris on it so the minute it’s there she has to pull it down and try to run and hide so she can examine it in minute detail. It means I get through around ten tea towels a day so I suppose I really should hang it somewhere else. In other people’s houses, if they know her, they immediately run to hide the tea towels. I’ve tried giving her her own but she can’t be arsed unless there’s the slightest possibility of food

Mine likes finding toys to give to visitors to play fetch.

Except the time my MIL came to visit and she couldn’t find any toys in the house, so she ran outside and plonked a big chunk of mud/clay right on top of her feet instead Grin
