Rudest things said about your dog?

Attended a family party today. The host (we're very close) adores DDog and very much wanted him to come - and he behaved pretty much impeccably. Another guest is known to dislike dogs. I had stage whispered comments all afternoon

"oh, why did they bring that thing with them, I thought they'd have left it at home"
"I don't think dogs should be where food is, it's not hygienic"
Calling DDog "it" not "he"
"Oh, it's a Jack Russell, that's why it's nasty"
"Our bags have been on the floor, we'll have to disinfect them when we get home"
"Why did he just shake? He probably has fleas"
"I don't like it when people have dogs but don't train them" (cue me demonstrating a variety of complicated tricks DDog can perform)
The guest was also mortally offended when DDog asked her for a game of fetch by giving her his favourite toy Hmm

I've spent all bloody day biting my lip Angry and if there had been one more comment I would have said something. Anyone else had people be incredibly rude about their DDog?

A friend took her new pug puppy for his first vaccination and the vet (who favours gundogs) said, Why didn’t you get a proper dog?

Generally by strangers;
"That dog looks like a little old man."
"What a scruffy looking thing."
"If that were my dog I'd give it a good smack."

By my twat of a FIL;
"When I retire I'm going to get a decent dog and train it properly" (nodding at my little psycho).

Well I have a poodle cross 😁 so I get, of course he came from a puppy farm (he didn't) hes untrainable (he isnt) he'll probably have the worst traits from both breeds ( he doesnt) I'm daft for paying so much for a mongrel Hmm nah hes a bloody delight & priceless as far as I'm concerned!

Been told mine has the potential to be dangerous.
Yup mine and every other dog alive, however nope, just mine and why... he's a GSD Hmm in a village full of small dogs.

I get "what on earth is that!?!" I usually reply that he is an elephant cleverly disguised as a small dog.
He has been described as a rat or a gremlin. When I go into my grandads pub a lot of the regulars tell me not to feed him after midnight or get him wet... These jokes wore thin after the first telling, trust me 4 years later I'm not going to laugh.
The nicest description I've heard is "ohh is he crossed with a fox"

He is a Chihuahua Cross with something (possibly a Yorkshire terrier with his coat) but he is a rescue so we don't really know.

Stupid woman: "Your dog is bloody viscious and needs putting down"
Me: "you need to teach your kid not to hit dogs with a stick, your lucky he only growled at him"

Some school children called my dog a fat hairy rat once while we out innocently minding our own business, and they laughed at him 😭

Our Daisy was a cross breed. There was staffy, whippet, border collie and alsatian in there. One day we were chatting to some people, and someone just blurted out " But she looks like a 'cut and shut!' "

She died in January- we do miss our 'cut and shut' !

As my ecstatic 2 year old springer spaniel emerges - finally- from the sea ...."eeeeew - it's all wet - yuk"! Note: we LIVE there, this is a day tripper, on a quiet end of a very long beach, far from the main drag. And SHE (not IT) is absolutely adorable and quite the light of my life!

Mine was regularly called a hooligan by the dog walking clique on my local playing field.

My mother was once in court as a witness to a well-publicised assault. We had journalists coming round for a few weeks trying to talk to her and she kept turning them away. We had a big 18 month old dog who was the sweetest pet imaginable but got very overexcited at all these extra visitors and did end up jumping on one of them as he wandered round our back garden peering in the windows Hmm. He got muddy pawprints on his pristine light grey suit.

Just over a week later that same journalist printed an article about "terrified witness living in fear in country-side compound patrolled by vicious guard dog". My DM was really annoyed not at him writing an article about her when she declined to talk to him but for slandering her beloved dog Grin. Our NDN fell over themselves laughing at this idiot journalist calling our goofball dog vicious and describing our perfectly normal bungalow with some fencing to keep livestock out of our garden as a "compound".

A complete stranger came up to me as I was walking my greyhound and pushing my new baby in the pram and told me I should get rid of my dog as greyhounds were vicious and he would eat my baby Confused. I was so stunned I couldn't even reply. Bless my dear old boy, he was the gentlest most soppy, loving creature who was pure goodness through and through, that stupid man could not have been more wrong Angry

I get a lot of little old ladies asking “Oh bless him, is he ill?” He’s skinny, but not unusually so for a greyhound...
I also randomly had a group of teenage schoolboys taking bets on whether or not he was a Great Dane, and graciously giving me the deciding vote Grin

Grandmother in law said our 18 month old spaniel cross was a monster. She’d moved in with my MIL and our pup had always been allowed on the sofa there and she didn’t approve :( we’ve not been back since!

My sister in law HATES dogs. She comes to family parties at our house and is so rude about our dog (who lives here!). Last time she came, her son told me she said to him on the way in..."you go ahead, and make sure that dogs feet are nailed to the floor" - what a b. I dont know why she comes round. If she wasnt related to me (by marriage) Id have told her to feck off a long time ago!

Our dog gets called ugly all the time, he's a rescue pug crossed with a patterdale and we adore him. We also got a lot of sneers about getting a rescue rather than from a breeder. He has an underbite so he does look a little funny but he is the best thing that ever happened to us.

“Is it a poodle cross?”. Me: “no she’s a pedigree terrier”. Them: “hmm, I think you’ve been had, looks like a poodle cross to me”.
Hmm

Same while I was walking my niece and one of my dogs... yeah couldn't be further from the truth! One of mine plays with the neigbours cat and they cuddle up on th patio on a nice day after a particularly playful morning and the other hides from it because she is scared of the cat.... they also adore my dss and dn like they gave birth to them themselves
