If your dog pissed all over some merchandise outside a shop would you offer to pay for it?

Dh was all for apologising and leaving at that but I paid. Two beautiful cushions, couldn’t just leave them there with the poor shop owner, all covered in dog piss. And he’s a big dog. It was a lot of piss.

He’s never done that in his life. I bet some other dog had already pissed there and he just followed suit. So embarrassing. blush

Yes, I would pay

Just as I wouid pay if I broke something

(assuming they were reasonable and normally displayed)

Bananalanacake Thu 02-May-19 16:28:08

well If you paid for them they're yours so you could take them home and wash them. I don't own a dog and never will. read too much about them on mngrin

Isohungy Thu 02-May-19 16:28:41

Oh god yes, absolutely! Bit shocked at your dh!

Im never quite sure what to do when I haven't caught HungyDog before he's pissed on a shop sign though?

TildaKauskumholm Thu 02-May-19 16:30:22

Yes of course you should pay if you can't be arsed to control the dog!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig Thu 02-May-19 16:32:07

I still can’t believe he did it. He’s never attempted to piss on something like that before. There must have been some dog scent there already. Dh thought I was offering to pay to have them cleaned. I didn’t even ask, actually, I might have been able to do that. They are lovely cushions though so at least there’s that.

The shop owner was delighted. She got two cushions sold so she’s happy. grin

@TildaKauskumholm bit harsh

BreakfastAtSquiffanys Thu 02-May-19 16:35:43

Are they nice cushions?
Are they now in the dog's bed?

Floralnomad Thu 02-May-19 16:36:14

It’s the sort of thing my dog would do which is why I don’t take him shopping , absolutely the correct thing to pay for them .

Hazlenutpie Thu 02-May-19 16:37:56

Thank goodness I have a bitch! Anyways, of course you should have paid for the damaged goods.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig Thu 02-May-19 16:39:08

No they’re not in the dogs bed, they’re far too nice grin

I have visions of a very very tall dog pissing on a stall of shop goods. However, wondering why they were low enough to be pissed on, it is normal to see plastic buckets, boxes, stools etc. on the pavement but not fabric items, that's asking for trouble.

I would have felt obliged to buy them but would have suggested not putting them so low down in future.

GiveMeFiveMinutes Thu 02-May-19 16:59:50

Were the cushions on the floor outside of the shop? I'm really confused as to how your dog was able to do it!

Ignore @TildaKauskumholm , his / her comment was rude and unnecessary.

longearedbat Thu 02-May-19 17:09:35

Doesn't excuse your dog, but it is a very strange place to put soft furnishings, isn't it? Could just as easily be someone scuffing them with a soiled shoe, or some one spilling something on them. Put it this way, if I was selling lovely cushions they wouldn't be sitting on the pavement (which is how I imagine this scenario, but I'm probably wrong!)

adaline Thu 02-May-19 17:19:07

I would to pay.

But I have to wonder at a shop that leaves soft furnishings all over the floor hmm

liquidfootball Thu 02-May-19 17:21:36

op hasn't said that the cushions were on the pavement confused

CherryPavlova Thu 02-May-19 17:26:34

I would pay. However I wouldn’t let my dog be in a position to do that. In urban areas he’s on a tight lead away from shops with outside displays.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman Thu 02-May-19 17:32:42

Definitely right to pay. At least you like the cushions!

troppibambini Thu 02-May-19 17:41:36

I'm curious to know how you control when your dog wee's?
Yes I think what you did was right op and you got two nice new cushions!!
I was in the way to the vet with my dog and she did the most hideous runny poo right outside a cafe I cleaned it up the best I could with a waitress tutting at me I asked for some hot water so I could completely wash it away, sometimes dogs are absolutely arseholes.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages Thu 02-May-19 17:47:29

Yes I would pay too - but take the cushions home and wash them thoroughly, before giving them away if they weren't to my taste.

Dogs are sent to embarrass us. Mine once got caught short in the middle of the Paddington station concourse and did a poo there. It's so airy and the ceilings so high I think he genuinely thought he was outdoors. Cue awful looks from passers by as I waited for him to finish so I could clear it up. blush

Sunshine1235 Thu 02-May-19 17:47:33

This seems like an excellent excuse to buy things ‘sorry love I had to buy these beautiful expensive cushions because the dog pissed on them’

ConfCall Thu 02-May-19 17:51:55

You did nothing wrong, it’s one of those things! You were right to pay though. Not the shopkeeper’s fault, they shouldn’t be out of pocket.

Sashkin Thu 02-May-19 17:52:01

I think when OP says “on the pavement” she means “displayed outside the shop (in a basket or something)” not “literally lying on the pavement”.

Yep I think you did need to pay, your DH is wrong about that.

MattMagnolia Thu 02-May-19 20:08:38

My dog once peed on a toddler in a buggy. I nearly died of embarrassment but didn’t offer to pay for them!
