My dog died tonight

He was 12.
Long haired jack Russell and the best dog ever.
Not been well for a week, vet said muscle strain and gave anti inflammatory drugs. He also said he had a heart murmur.
Laying on the sofa, he just spasmed and left.
My son buried him in garden.
We've all sobbed and still are.

Don't know what I want from this thread. I miss him.

I'm so sorry for your loss and grief. Losing a beloved pet - one of the family - is devastating and I understand.

What a lucky boy to have such a loving family and what a lucky family to have known him.

It sounds like he had a wonderful life with a family who loved him very much.

Sending you Flowers

Oh that's sad. Doggy friends take apiece of them when they go.

I'm a stiff brandy down but still crying.

So sorry Linda, it’s such a terribly sad time when you lose a pet 💐

I’m sure he thought you were the best owner ever too ❤️

Oh how sad for you all, but it sounded peaceful? And he was with you and loved - you can’t ask for a better way to go than that.

Just red back my post, I didn’t mean to sound so blunt and/or minimising your loss. More that sometimes positive things can be found in really sad circs.

Am so sorry for you losing your boy x

@Arriettyborrower

I'm not taking anything bluntly.
I know all replies are with the best intentions.

I keep telling myself that if someone else told me their dog died in the same way, I'd be telling them that they were all blessed that nature did the easiest thing for all.
However, I then tell myself to bugger off and start crying again.

What e terrible shock for you.
Our jrt had a heart problem. He collapsed in the garden. It was a lovely sunny day and he'd just had a roast chicken tea and we were having a ball game. I thought he had died, but he came round after a while. I wish he had died then to be honest. Months of various medications (and deterioration) came to nothing and we had him pts about 8 months later. If he had died then it would have been quick and peaceful and he was really happy. Like your dog, passing at home. At least he was with those that loved him and in a comfortable and familiar place. But it's still shit, I know.

So sorry to hear this. My dog also died very suddenly and completely unexpectedly three weeks ago. He was 11. It’s a terrible shock and we, like you, were devastated. I console myself by remembering he’d had a fab walk, roast duck (with roasties and gravy) for his supper and he was asleep between us on our (his actually - they were all his!) bed. His life was good. I still shed a tear most days. I dreamt about him a few nights ago and it was a lovely joyful dream.

I’m so sorry. Please do console yourself with the fact that he died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. I’d have given anything for my old boy to have been in his bed by the fire instead of on the vets metal table and us having to go home without him. It’s making me cry thinking about it. I really do mean that most sincerely. Sounds like he had a wonderful life and a peaceful passing. And as a lovely wise lady once said to me, it hurts so much because you loved them so much. I’m sure he knew that. ❤️

I'm so sorry. My lab was PTS in March and me and my 6 year old had a big sob again just last night about it. It's devastating to the whole family and my heart goes out to you Flowers

Thank you all and so many hugs and flowers to those who've also lost pups.

My other dog is a bit lost but so are we all.

I take great comfort in that he died at home and that he knew he was so loved.
My son is home on leave and it's like he waited for him.

I've lost people but this is so hard.
It does get easier, no?

Having another dog to look after is a great help, I've found. Ours is really struggling on his own, I installed a Web cam and he howls and whines when he's home alone which he didn't do before. He's getting much more attention now, forcing me to get out and take him for long walks even if I don't really feel like it etc.

How sad, so sorry, it is unusual for dogs to die naturally i heard, so that might be some comfort

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 25/04/2019 22:05

Yes it does get easier with time. What helped me was getting another dog. It took me a while to bond with him though. I just couldn’t stand the empty house although you’ve already got another dog so hopefully it’s not as bad.
