After a long period of deliberation, researching etc we travelled a few hours to join our prospective breeder on a lovely forest walk with her dogs, her ex puppies and their owners... and agreed that we have found the breed for us.
A large pack all together, but just the calm gentle dogs we had been told they are. And I got to cuddle a 'not been out long' baby of 12 weeks who was just...amazing... a confident happy little pup (who fell asleep on my lap and I didn't want to let her go!)
The contract is a good one... breeder will advise and if the worst should happen she has her pups returned to her at any age,..she said it is rare but has taken the odd dog back when the family circumstances have changed to the point it isn't fair to keep a dog. She is a fully accredited and registered breeder with all health scores listed and the Mum-to -be is a fabulous girl.
We are going to have a dog... 51 years I've been waiting for my own! Roll on August.....

Can you tell I'm excited?!

(ps once again, not having a rescue because I have an adult son with special needs who is very gentle and lovely but we need a pup we can train and not come with issues)

You can get puppies without issues from many rescue centres but congratulations on supporting the unnecessary puppy-trade industry.

Great news. I’m glad you’re finally in the right place for one & that you’ve chosen which breed etc. It’s going to be so good for both you and DS. What breed did you decide on?

Didn't take long. 3 posts.

sogentle walk a mile in the (lovely) OP’s shoes before judging. Or, you know, just keep your thoughts in your head, it’s not compulsory to share them.

Oh lovely dogs. Most Spitz breeds are fairly high strung. I'd love to meet one of these in person.

Congrats on 'booking' an as yet unborn designer dog, so thrilled for you. Well done.

OP, don't you know you can only rescue dogs on MN.

Report
Fjfs · 15/04/2019 00:20

Unless it's a Kennel Club registered German Shepherd, then you're allowed to book them.

Preferably though it will be an ugly looking mutt like a 'Staffie' who wouldn't hurt a fly. That they are bull terriers seems to escape our lovely MNers.

Now one MNER owns a Staffie, but apparently everyone should.

@sogentlewithnoammonia Show us your dogs.
Or just tell us. What dog(s) have you? And where did you rescue them from?

Sogentle (seems a bit of a misname to me)...
We have looked for well over a year for a suitable rescue that is safe to live with two cats and a son with autism, Learning disability, OCD and anxiety. He adores dogs (and our cats) but we need a dog that has NO prior history... and having trawled and questioned just about every rescue in driving distance... nothing.

We have tried.
I am not willing to take on a foreign rescue (I can't see how that helps the problem in the UK) but would willingly have had a suitable puppy from Blue Cross, Battersea or any of the others we have contacted, but with no luck. The breed we have chosen is for very specific reasons, size, temperament, and suitability for our family...and my lovely adult, but will always be dependent on us, son's needs are paramount.

How exciting it sounds a well thought decision. Our puppy has been hard work but amazing. We too tried rescues but we're limited to certain breeds and the only ones we found weren't homed unless there was a resident dog. Don't let anyone make you feel bad.

How exciting!

Eurasiers are really cute. I remember when we got our name down for our beagle pup - he's now 14 months and very content.

I wish people would stop going on about rescue dogs. Not everyone can get a rescue dog no matter how much they might want one!

Yay. Love puppies ❤️. Haven’t heard of this breed, just about to google.

Hope it all goes well, and enjoy those puppy snuggles when the time comes.

I think I’m the only person ever who loves the puppy stage. All the teaching and seeing them learn new things ... I loved every min of it. Enjoy your new puppy when you get it.
