Dog staggering

Hi all, our dog has just suddenly had a stagger. Back legs very unstable. He was like an animal that was falling under sedation. He wobbled for a bit but seems ok now. He's on his bed but can stand up and walk around.
Immediately prior to this he was eating some bread the toddler threw down. He's old. Maybe 10 ish and a sheepdog cross.
Anyone have any ideas whats up?

Don’t have any idea, but if you have pet insurance, many have 24 hour helpline numbers, could call them. Hope he’s okay.

I've left a message with the vet so hopefully he'll call me back soon. He seems absolutely grand now, licking himself and scratching his ear.

Ours did this and it was a slipped disc, but obviously I'm no vet Nd it could very well be a number of thimgs?! Hope he's ok x

I'm wondering myself if it's something to do with his ears as he's gone deaf lately.

Middle ear infection can make their balance go. Our old girl had this, her eyes were also flickering from side to side.

Could be an ear infection?

He's going into the vet in the morning, he'll go tonight if it happens again. He went outside and had a roll in the grass, seems very well in himself. Vet thinks it might be an ear problem too.

What was the news from the vet?

He's being treated for a suspected ear infection but the vet couldn't really find anything wrong with him. It's a mystery.

Fingers crossed it was just a one off then. I suppose at 10ish he's going to have the odd wobble here and there.

I hope so. We'll be keeping a close eye on him.
