Please help! puppy is on his way to emergency vet.
Our pup had his first outing today after having all his vaccinations. Met a friend who had her dog with her and he bit our pup on the back leg
It bled, and DH thought he could see bone.
I'm so upset, poor puppy.
Is this going to freak him out now? Will he be put off going out? seeing other dogs? he's such a good boy, I'm devestated😢

Once he is fixed up it is really important to get him to meet safe, friendly dogs to build his confidence. My boy was nearly killed by another dog when he was 15 weeks old with me at the other end of the lead. Whilst he was recovering from his injuries I carried him places to meet carefully chosen safe dogs so he learnt how to socialise with them.

thankyou. he is due to start puppy social classes next week. I hope it doesn't change his lovely temperament.

Oh no. Poor pup.
You need controlled introductions to safe and known dogs. Be aware some dogs find puppies annoying.
I would avoid where it happened and obviously avoid that dog. (What has your friend said?)
Carrying him isn’t a bad idea. Training classes could also help with his confidence. I hope he’s ok.

thanks Wolfie, friend is devastated and offered to pay any bills. Not sure insurance will cover it??
I will take him somewhere quiet on Monday for a sit and watch session provided he's ok

Bless him. You need a stunt dog to go for walks with to help him feel secure. Poor baby. Hope all is ok.
If you do the sit and watch go somewhere dogs will be on leads so no one bounces over to him.
Take him to the pub! Or a dog friendly cafe? But rather the pub. You sound like you could do with a

Does your friend have pet insurance? If so she may able to claim on the third party liability portion of the insurance. If not, you should be able to claim on your own insurance.

Yy to the previous advice about finding calm and reliable dogs to meet up with asap. It's important to get in lots of positive experiences ASAP - the key socialisation period is up until 16 weeks of age.

Thankyou. apparently it's through to the muscle but vet isn't keen on anaesthetic as he's a pup. he also said the stitches may not stay put because of where the wound is

Oh no! I too have a terrier who does not like puppies. Absolutely fine with any other dog. I only discovered this when a lady with a tiny poodle pup snuck up on us in the park one day and ddog snarled and snapped No harm done, very fortunately and since then I put his lead on when puppies approach and warn owners not to approach, if they look tempted.

The vet has phoned, we are off to collect him, they have stitched him up, he's got antibiotics and painkillers. At least he will be home tonight.

That’s great news. Do you have a cone of shame? Make sure he can’t get at the stitches. Wish you were local. Wolfie girl makes an ace bodyguard!

Not sure if he has a cone, I expect so.
Our first family dog and it's not started well. we've only had him 2 weeks

Don’t panic! Mine broke a lead and ran across two roads and I lost her. Hadn’t had her long.
She is now two and a half and a sweetie. Taken ages to get her relaxed by traffic. But deep breaths. You can do this. Training sessions will help. Dogs under control and on leads. All positive. And of course there will be treats. Tell me you have the good treats ready?!

we are home with the cone of shame he cried all the way home and still is now. He's finally in his bed bless him. he hates the cone.

Awww so sorry OP for you and puppy. Most dogs hate the cone but depending on where the stitches are see if an inflatable cone would be better. They are tolerated much better but the puppy may be able to get to the stitches depending on where they are.

Lots of cuddles now and then later look at getting help around socialisation to help you both to get over any nerves meeting new dogs.

He gates the cone, he cried so much bless him. I'm going to look at the inflatable ones in the pet shop. The wound is on his back leg so not sure if inflatable will work??

If you are watching him he doesn’t need to keep the cone on just put it on when he’s alone . At least he is home and patched up .

Awwww your poor pup, hope he recovers well and definitely get him out there sooner rather than later, you don't want this putting him off other dogs.

The inflatable one are better for our dog who has had a couple of operations.

He hasn't got the cone on now, he seems back to his normal self. we are watching him like a hawk! I've popped and bought an inflatable one for tonight. will see how it goes.
He's doing really well, full of beans and starving! The vet gave us some tinned 'Royal Canin' food for 3 days for gastro purposes.
He's got really runny poo but I'm guessing that's the an anaesthetic.
He's also got antibiotics and anti inflammatorys.
