Toileting on walks

Steve is now 13wks and able to go on walks. We’ve noticed he waits until he gets home to go to the toilet. I’m just wondering if it’s more likely he will always do this or as he gets more used to walks he will start doing his business whilst out.

Yes he will probably will start to wee when out and about. As his walks become longer and he gets used to being out and about.

However I much prefer my dogs to wee and poo before we go out on a walk as it is easier not to have to carry full poo bags while out and about Smile (But I have guide dog training in my background and we always teach GD to wee and poo in a set place at home)

2yr old dog still only wees on walks and that's more territorial. Means I don't pick up any warm ones!

Thank you. Tbh I’d prefer him to do it at home, more for our convenience but I was worried as we go away in August and obviously need him to do his business outside of our garden.

Is he happy to wee on a lead in the garden?

If so just take him outside on the lead after meals etc outside of your property to widen the wee area.

If not get him used to weeing on a lead in the garden then do the above.

I would not worry about it yet though

Battendog was the same. He started toiletting on walks as he got a bit older. First wee then poop. I cannot recall exactly but I think he might have been a few months old before he started. Now he will go on a walk just as easily as he will go in the garden.

Yes, he wee’s on his lead in the garden, never poo’d on it though.

He’s doing so well bless him, seems to have got the hang of everything we’ve thrown at him, so to speak, and I’m sure he’ll get the hang of it when he’s ready.

Why would you wsnt your dog to toilet on public property rather th
an your own? He is your dog. Hate seeing dogs poo and wee on the street, picking up or not.

starzig I don’t actually want him to toilet outside of our garden, as I said above it’s actually better for me if he does. My concern was our upcoming holiday and that if he doesn’t toilet outside of our garden what we would do then.
