Could be a hot spot, very nasty/painful if not treated, would get it checked immediately.

Vets shaved around it to help keep it clean. Has basically said he doesn't know. Possibly scraped it on something outside and making it worse by licking / scratching. If it gets any bigger to go back. So I haven't really got any answers...

Sounds like a hot spot developing, they're incredibly, incredibly painful, I wanted to say that as we had a vet before this who didn't tell us that and didn't believe in pain relief, and caused one of our dogs terrible trauma as a result. Swabbing in very, very dilute hibi-scrub should help it heal.

If it is isn't currently a hot spot then if scratched could turn into one very quickly again swabbing it helps, so would stop her from licking/scratching it. A graze can go from tiny/non-existent to a massive and painful hot spot in a matter of hours. Sorry to be a prophet of doom but have been through this kind of thing a few times and had more than one vet who didn't deal with a problem effectively before things escalated.

But on the positive side if it grows then likely will be because it's a hot spot or has become one, in which case though painful and a pain to treat, still very very treatable and not in any way fatal.
