Cows Hooves

What do people think of cows hooves for a dog chew? specifically for a puppy.
I've read good and bad about them.

My dogs, and our foster pups adore them and we've not had any problems. Just keep an eye for any sharp edges, and I wouldn't use them for a very strong jawed dog

Brilliant for teething doggies! Mine have always loved them and never had a problem apart from the smell. OMG wet hooves stink!

I remember our dog years ago having pigs ears to chew on.

Usually they aren't too bad, but one of ours likes to bury them in the garden and then dig them back up, and then they do honk.

Pigs ears last about 30 seconds here. Hooves last months and months of gnawing

They absolutely stink but mine loves them. We stuff them and freeze them.

You can get frozen raw cows legs with hooves still attached (they’re not whole legs, just halfway up the shin)

They last quite well... and they don’t half freak out your neighbours when your dog wanders past with it, lol

@Hearthurts we use loads of different things - cream cheese, peanut butter, pate, apple sauce, mashed bananas, yoghurt or even just wet food or biscuits in gravy.

We call them poo-bones because of the smell 🤢 Dogs love them though. Ours had them from about 3 months. Occasional peanut butter dollop in there as an extra treat!

We have various animal parts but he usually buries them after a few mins, I restrict to the garden as they stink

Well hopefully the cow is dead otherwise there's a hoofless one somewhere...

Oh and our girl loves all random animal bits. Snout is a current favourite!

Put an old trainer over the hoof, see if that freaks them out any less.

I bought a couple of hooves in the pet shop, and came across a stuffed trachaea

Lol, dunno, she was a bit disturbed by chicken feet too...

I found it quite amusing tbh as she eats meat and I don’t, and she was the one bothered by random animal parts.

Trachea don’t last long IME, unless you’ve a really small dog I suppose, but mine just ate them in about 2 minutes.

I'm just here too insert the standard warning that if you feed your dogs peanut butter, make sure it's not one that contains xylitol.

thanks lees I have a quite runny peanut butter that is 99.5% peanuts and .5% salt
The make is 'pics' it's delicious!

I wouldn't give one that contains any salt at all - dogs don't have the same tolerance to it as we do.

I use Meridian which is 100% peanuts.

Our local poundstretcher had dog peanut butter for about £1.60, the exact same one is in Pets at Home for a pound more.
