DDog - becoming incontinent? Anyone with experience please?!

DDog is nearly 9 and in the last few weeks has been doing something odd whilst going for a poo. Usually she would do the dance, legs buckle under and she does what she needs to - quite clearly knows what she’s doing. Recently however, in the minute or two before she starts the poo dance, walking normally, bits of poo just seem to fall out of her bum. She’s oblivious to this.

Is this a sign of impending incontinence? I can take her to the vet clearly but it’s always good to get views from people more experienced! Her poo hasn’t changed and she’s not having any other problems.

Sounds like my late Labrador girl. It was actually arthritis not incontinence, she couldn’t squat well enough to do the poo and so sort of did a walking poo with a bit of a squat at the end.

BT yes, as you say, best to get checked out at the vet.

Ok thanks I’ll look into that, though she still poos normally. It just starts with the bits falling out as she walks, then she clicks into the usual ritual and performs as required, dance, squat and everything.

Bumping as we’ve been out for a short walk and she’s done it again Sad

There are quite a few conditions that may lead to incontinence but you really need to get her to the vet for a proper examination.

She’s still quite young, so you might want to look into it, medication and some physio will help with the back.
