Searching for a breeder- whippet/lab cross

Hello

I’d like to get a whippet/lab cross pup at some point in the next couple of years but don’t know where to start looking for a breeder. Any recommendations gratefully received.

To be honest you'll probably struggle to find a decent breeder.

Most purposely bred whippet crosses are either for sports or working but labs aren't a common breed of choice in either case.

Why that particular cross?

I don't think you'll find a breeder tbh. There are commercial breeders of collie x lurchers, and some other mixes, but they are targeted at coursing. There are all kinds of lurcher mixes out there (I have a whippet x doberman), but they are again for coursing, and I'm not sure why someone would do a lab x whippet

I would imagine that cross breed would be something you would just come across when looking. I can’t imagine there is many, if any purpose breedings for them our there.
Not a good size match to be breeding on purpose.

Another one wondering what on earth inspired you to want that particular cross.

Didn’t realise it was so rare- I see lots around and they are beautiful dogs (you basically either get a slim lab-type or a solider whippet). Sometimes referred to as whipadors but I think that sounds a bit silly. It’s not a cross I’ve come up with myself Wink it’s reasonably common (not as common as a cockatoo or labradoodle, obviously, but definitely an established cross).

I’ll try asking owners I meet. Thanks, all.

Cockatoo Grin

Must it be a pup? If there are a few around your way then one may come up in rescue.

Just because it’s an established cross doesn’t mean you will find a reputable breeder. Better to take a cross from a rescue or a pedigree from a decent breeder than put cash in the pockets of puppy farmers.

It’s not that it’s ‘rare’ ... it’s because it’s not a thing. I would be very surprised if any of the ones you know came from a purpose breeding instead of an accident.

Plenty of puppies in rescue centres without ordering one imo.
