So yesterday we brought our new adopted greyhound home. She’s absolutely lovely, good with the kids, no accidents in the house and perfectly well behaved with our grumpy elderly cat. What shall I look out for as she seems a bit too perfect! She’s 3 btw and retired from racing in December so has never lived in a house before.

Meant to say we had nervous panting for the first 24hrs but then he got used to everything. It's just a lot of change for them but they cope very well by all accounts.

She's beautiful but probably on her best behaviour until she gets the measure of you! 🤣
They are very rangy dogs and can reach the back of counters no problem so just a heads up regarding leaving food out.
I have 3 greyhound type dogs who think they are cats, sleep for 21 hours a day and fold up very small. Enjoy her.

Thanks for the replies! Dave is an amazing name for a hound 😂. We have all fallen in love with her, I applied to lots of rescues before we found her and I’m so glad we took the time to look around and find her. She’s perfect.

What an absolute beautiful girl. Be prepared for a 10 minute walk to take 20 as you will be stopped regularly by admirers wanting to stroke her!

She'll come into her own over the next few months and her personality and greyhound quirks will soon shine through 😏.

She's gorgeous! My next dog is going to be a retired greyhound 😍
Don't look for problems, there will doubtless be some as she settles but go with the flow and deal with them as and when they come up.

That brought back memories of my lurcher. She used to look like a bundle of sticks when sleeping on the chair, but was very tall once unfolded.

Beautiful. I hope you have a nice electric blanket, velvet cushions, gentle lighting and adequate healthy snacks to serve her with Grin

If she was a racer, be careful when you take her out. Keep her on a leash, and when you do eventually let her off, make sure she wears a muzzle.

She is beautiful ! Our last Lurcher lulled us into a false sense of security then we turned out backs whilst making a sandwich ... one Lurcher very full of cheese . The whole block disappeared In one bite 😆

Ha ha Grin I had a Labrador/lurched cross a few years ago, she was an amazing dog but good grief the food swiping was out of this world!

So far she hasn’t stolen any food m, doesn’t seem very food orientated, I’m guessing when she feels more relaxed she might take more of an interest. She has had a few funny five minutes acting like a big puppy, so I think she will be quite a character when she settles in!

Oh what a gorgeous dog!! 😍 I love greyhounds. When DDog is no longer with me (hopefully not for a looong time) I will be rescuing a greyhound.

Agree about them being a lovely dog but I'm really surprised they let you rehome her with a cat. You need to be so careful especially if the cat runs, they are trained to chase and kill

Crockof, I thought the same, but she’s cat safe she’s been trialled with cats at the kennels and we had a home visit where she met the cat and wasn’t at all interested. The rescue suggested she’s probably ok if they are in our household but still to be careful and muzzle her in public and not let her off the lead.

She's lovely!

Ours is the same with the food swiping. Butter and cheese being the favourites here too! They're very tall, which seems obvious, but they really can reach all the surfaces so just need to be careful to put food properly away. And then the obvious what goes in, must come out diarrhoea in the middle of the night!

Other than that, he's a delight!
