Please can someone advise me and give a hand and paw hold?

My poor dog had KC pretty bad so we got her vaccinated. She's had it since, though not as bad and now she has it again. We were up three times with her last night though even though we let her out it didn't seem to be a toilet issue as she just pottered about the garden. The second time she had it she didn't go to the vet and we rode it out. Given the humans are also poorly and knackered what can we do to help her so that we all get some sleep? We've got a humidifier going at the moment but she's clearly fed up. I took her out two hours later this morning and she walked from the gate straight to the other side to come home. Normally she'd want to do at least three full circuits but she did half and wanted to go home Sad.

Have you been to the vets to see if they can give any treatment?

No as they are closed and I'd rather not see someone who doesn't know her. Also, apart from antibiotics there isn't really any. We've tried with, we've tried without, there was no discernible difference in how AmazingDog was so I'd rather not put her through that. I was thinking more about things to ease her throat tbh.

When my pup had kennel cough I gave her manuka honey and toddlers cough syrup. That helped her with the coughing, she kept us awake coughing and gagging without it.

Baby Benylin is a great help at soothing the cough so you all get some rest. Once all mine went down with it. After I'd taken the third one to the vet he gave me a big bag of pills & told me to get the Benylin so not to need to take any others. Worked very well.

I've never bought Benylin. DH thinks it has alcohol in it ?

She's quiet. Ate her lunch and tea, even though I was 15 minutes late she hadn't come for me to feed her.

Mine gets KC a lot despite having the vaccination , he also has tracheal scarring due to having the Battersea strain very badly as a pup we always give him baby tixylix , he loves it .

I feel a bit better now, thank you Floralnomad. As I've been thinking I was doing something wrong or there was something wrong with Amazing Dogs immunity. Sounds like it's just bad luck.

Is there anything we could give her to boost her immunity so it's less likely to take hold.

AmazingDog seems better this morning. She only had us up once at 11.25 and dh just sat with her for a bit. She's confused as to why I went out without her but I don't think I can't walk her. I don't want to pass it on even though a lot of owners haven't bothered to get their dogs done and have passed it on. I did and she's still had it twice so it's hard to know the best thing to do.

I am really sorry your dog has been ill and really pleased she is on the mend.

I think this statement is overly harsh, though. KC vaccines are troublesome in that they are not particularly effective - as you have seen here. Your poor pup has had it twice since she was vaccinated.

Vaccination does not always prevent the dog catching KC both because of the multiple strains (only the two common ones are included in the vaccine) and because it's just not that effective against the strains that is does include. That means that even vaccinated dogs can shed the disease and pass it onto others.

Those that have had KC or have just been vaccinated can shed the disease for several weeks afterwards - maybe as long as 14 weeks. I am going to guess no one keeps their dogs inside for that long post vaccine or infection.

I guess what I am saying is, the KC could have come from anywhere. Not just unvaccinated dogs.

I really hope your dog is back to her usual self soon.

I did and she's still had it twice so it's hard to know the best thing to do.

KC vaccination is like the human flu one. Doesn't target all strands but can help minimise the impact of the ones it does.

My dog has KC vaccination but if he mingles with other dogs there is still a risk of him getting it. I also keep mine away from other dogs for 2 weeks after vaccination to avoid the risk of passing it on because it's a live vaccine and can shed.

I do accept I may have been harsh but I did qualify that.

Thankfully she seems okay now. Still not fully her bouncy self but hasn't coughed for over 24 hours.

I appreciate all the paw holding. Thank you.

Same as for humans - a healthy and varied diet, fresh air, and exercise.

Great. Thank you. I've not had her out for a crazy walk today as want her to not over do it.
