Rescue lurcher... found his secret

This is my first Mumsnet post after many years of stalking using the site for research on many issues...
Finally got to the bottom of my new rescue lurcher’s separation anxiety and wanted to share the solution.
I let him sleep on the sofa rather than in the kitchen on a dog bed.
Turns out his separation was from the sofa, not us.

Are you sure he's a dog, not a cat.. lol

My rescue lurcher was much better as soon as we started giving him the run of the house instead of shutting him in the crate or kitchen! Funny things 🥰

That sounds incredibly normal for lurchers! Mine will sleep on a dog bed if they really have to (or if one is in the sun) but are normally to be found upside down on a sofa or human bed.

Bless him.

My dog (not a lurcher) sleeps all over the house in different places.

At night she usually starts out on my bed but she's usually on the sofa in the morning. Her four different dog beds tend to be ignored in the main.

They know what they want.

He is our second lurcher, first one must have malfunctioned as she’s always been happy in her bed. Happier now though, jumping on the bandwagon and settling in for the night on the sofa!
Love the mention of upside down sleeping... new lurcher does that too, not very graceful.
Can’t see how to quote your name properly CMOTDibbler, sorry, beginner at this...

Isn't it good to know that the sofa rates more highly than you Wink

The upside down sleeping starts very early too - I have two four month old foster pups with me at the moment, so four upside down dogs on the sofas at the moment which makes it tight for space!

Yes, RandomMess, I have been properly put in my place.
I am also developing a technique to slide the dog out of my spot on the sofa as he is all of a sudden extremely heavy Hmm

Grin sounds brilliant, I had a lurcher and was sleeping on the sofa one night, wondered where he was, he had wedged himself down the back of the sofa cushions Hmm

Ours has never gone upside down, is he broken!? I think he'd get stuck on his bony bits!

Love that yours is so attached to the sofa Grin

I've got a lurcher and two greyhounds and have to fight for sofa space. The lurcher loves to be in between us on the bed and can creep on silently and be instantly asleep. It's hard not to take on more especially when there are so many in rescue. Brilliant dogs.
