The doghouse

Help - dog chewing skirting boards and door frames

She is just over 1. Not happened before this. She sleeps in the kitchen with our other dog - not in a crate. The chewing has happened over night. She has plenty of toys to chew (which she loves chewing)

Short of covering each piece (there are loads of places she could chew!) - any suggestions?

Anything I can paint on that would put her off? That nail biting solution?

Many thanks in advance !

My seven month old puppy the same-I think she is a nervous chewer.

All the corners of the skirting boards are gnawed on and look awful Sad
Lucky she is cute...

Hoping you get some doggy person on here with suggestions!

Has something changed that has made her more stressed? How long do you leave her in the kitchen for?

Is she crate trained? The crate is ideal for this kind of thing as you can give the dog a lot of appropriate bones and chews and leave it for short periods. If she was crate trained as a puppy you can easily go back to it.

Pet shops sell products you can spray on to deter chewing, they are helpful in some cases.

Make sure she has some non-toxic chews and give her plenty of exercise outdoors. Often it's boredom and pent-up energy!

Thanks all. She isn't stressed and gets plenty of exercise and stimulation - although we are just getting back to some more training as we have got a bit casual lately!

Unfortunately the crate disappeared a long time ago - she wasn't keen and was not a problem at all before now!!

Looks like I'll be taping cardboard over the corners for a few weeks unless any more tips come by.

I'll get some extra chew toys too I think

Ddog started doing this randomly over night I think they try it once realise how satisfying it is and then off they go! I bought him a large block of anco root wood and he's not done it since.

That looks like a great idea! Ordering now! Yes I rather expect she just enjoys it.

I had to buy one to keep at day care too as he managed to take off about a meter of the door frame one day! Just be careful of your feet mine has a habit of walking around with it and then dropping it on your feet!

The Chew Roots were going to be my first suggestion as well, they helped a lot (as did age to be honest...) with my pup who was a serial wood chewer.
