Sick puppy

Our spaniel is 16 weeks old.
Since dog training class this morning she’s been throwing up.
They gave her hotdog which she hadn’t had before, nothing else was different.
She started throwing up a few hours later and is now throwing up about once an hour. Just water/saliva.
She’s had a bit to drink but refuses to eat.
She’s reluctantly had a walk in the past hour and her poo was a bit runnier than usual.
She’s more lethargic than usual but then will have 5 minutes here and there where she plays with a toy briefly.
I’m going to put her in her crate at 9pm so she hopefully sleeps it off.
Would you make a vet appointment in the morning if she’s still sick?
What should I do tonight re looking after her?
Her crate is built in downstairs and if we bring her up she’ll wee everywhere and chew things when we are asleep so that’s not really an option.
I’m worried about her though.
I’d say she’s been sick 5 times since 4pm? No sick in the past hour though.

In fact the first time she was sick it was pretty much digested food with big pieces of undigested hot dog in. Which is making me think it’s the hot dog that’s made her ill.

I’d ring your on call vet for some advice.
She’s young and she’s been sick a lot and you are worried, any vet would be happy to talk to you. Hope she’s ok.

Definitely call your vet’s out of hours service for advice. She’s still very young. Hope she's OK & it settles.

She's tiny, so I would be very worried.

Is she at least drinking enough and keeping the water down?

She’s actually just eaten a little bit of plain chicken. I’ll see how she goes over the next hour.

I'd sleep downstairs with her tonight and call the vet asap in the morning if she hasn't perked up.

She could be dehydrated I’d be calling the emergency vet for advice. Pups can go downhill very quickly

In a dog that young, I'd ring the vet for advice.

They can go downhill very rapidly.

I'd have a major issue too with a trainer that fed a puppy utter shit like hotdogs, to be honest too. I'd ring them and let them know how unwell your dog is in case others have been sick too.

I’m tempted to call the vet.
Husband thinks I’m being an idiot for an upset stomach.
He says she was sick 5 times in the space of 3 hours. She’s drank water and has had a portion of wafer thin chicken. She’s not thrown up now for over 1.5 hours.
He reckons pop her to bed and see how she is tomorrow as she’s eaten and drunk and been on a little walk round the block.
She’s really tired and just wants her bed bless her. Think the shivering was where she was cold. She got wet on her walk. She’s warmed up now and just wants to sleep.

It wasn’t the trainer that gave her hotdog. We were practising recall with other people’s dogs and another dog owner gave her hotdog when she was working with her.

Could I please ask was it 'dog' hot dog? As in 'hot dog sausage' made and sold as dog treats?

It's just our dog (older at 2yrs) was very poorly a couple of weeks ago after being given that for the first time. We ended up at the emergency vet as we'd also been on the beach that morning and wanted to make sure he hadn't picked up any of the nasties sometimes found there.

He was fine the next day after some rehydration fluids and bland diet.

She’s sat on my knee eating pieces of chicken now. I’m hoping she’s on the mend. Just going to stick with plain chicken for tonight and sit up with her for a couple of hours.

No it was human hotdog sausage.
Not even sure if it had been cooked. I know it’s not raw to begin with but I think you’re meant to cook it.

Don’t give her too much chicken, water is more important for now - and I’d still ring the vet - why are you so reluctant to get proper care for your puppy?

Our puppy had this last week it lasted around 14 hours and then she slowly started to eat took a couple of days to be back to herself but she's fine now and my older dog seems to have picked up the big too

I’m not reluctant to get her medical care.
I’m just seeing how she goes for a couple of hours.
She’s insured with 2 providers at the moment as there’s a crossover so taking her to the vet isn’t a problem. It’s on the end of our road too.
But she seems to have perked up. She’s just done a huge wee so I don’t think she’s dehydrated, her gums spring back to pink when they’re pressed and she’s eaten another few sheets of chicken.
Have set up a baby monitor next to her crate too.

She’s also happily lapped up a good few calpol syringes of water. So as long as she doesn’t throw up again (which she hasn’t now for over 2 hours) then I know she’s got food and a bit of water in her belly and I will let her sleep while listening out on the baby monitor.

Don’t hesitate to phone the vet in my experience - even if it’s just for advice. Anything with pork in it makes my dog sick (she’s half-spaniel). I hope she’s back to her usual self soon.

Was up twice in the night with her.
At 11 and 3.
She wanted big drinks of water and did runny poo.
She’s had a walk this morning.
More runny poo and drank lots but didn’t want breakfast.
No sick though so I think this may be the tail end hopefully.

Not eating would mean she still feels unwell. If that continues or she is sick again or the runny poos continue you should seek advice from the vets. She is still very young.

She's young and tiny, it can go bad every quickly. Watch like a hawk and get her to a vet if there's anything at all.
