Our DDog was PTS

Our darling dog was PTS last night, he was 15 and had Lymphoma.

The house is so quiet and his 7 year old DDog companion is whimpering and attached to my side.

DC devastated, I'm just feeling lost and don't know how to help DDog or DC

I’m so sorry Flowers

We lost ours 2 weeks ago and it’s bloody awful. I can’t just get used to it.

Kids are devastated. I’ve just been there with big hugs when they need it

There was no way I could not let you know that I so feel for you. Our 9-and-a-half year old boy was diagnosed with Lymphoma on Christmas Eve. We'd had lots of vets' bills over the years. This time I knew there was no good outcome. The vet said he'd have two or three relatively normal weeks and then go downhill rapidly. This was the case and the vet came to the house to put him to sleep on the 15th. He'd often seemed like there was nothing wrong (apart from the giant glands which were multiplying) but in the last couple of days he couldn't eat anything (so couldn't swallow his steriods) and stopped being able to drink. I wouldn't wish the decision to PTS on my worst enemy, but I feel it was right not to go down the chemotherapy route for this particular cancer.

I hope, in time, the fact that you've got another dog in the house already will comfort you, once he (and you) have adjusted to the new normal.

Sending virtual hugs, so sorry for your loss xxx when my dog was stolen the only thing that helped with that awful empty feeling was volunteering g for a local dog rescue walking their dogs. Maybe you can do this to help heal your heart and you ever know you might find a new best friend....I did when I fostered one and then adopted her as we fell in love x

I had to p my DDog ts earlier this week. The only comfort is that I’m certain he didn’t suffer, and I was with him throughout. Feeling very bereft and the house no longer feels like a home.

Thinking of you and the ddogs we’ll love forever x

I'm still so lost, house feels really empty. I keep thinking we should of had just one more day, but then how many "one more days" would I of wanted after that.

I know we did the right thing for DDog, it would of been selfish to of done one last day, it would of been only for out benefit and would of prolong DDogs suffering.

It still feels so raw

Sorry to everyone else for your own losses

Our dear girl was pts last friday, she would have been 14 this year. The house feels so strange even though we have another young dog.Takes time to feel 'normal' I've found in the past, going through the sad loss of a much loved companion.Thoughts are with all those who have also suffered a loss recently.Flowers

I’m so sorry for you postman and everyone here who has lost their lovely dogs. My poor boy has gone downhill so much lately I don’t think it will be long for him either which makes me feel so sad. I’m sure your dog has had a wonderful life with you. Someone on another thread said something about being glad that our dogs live so long with us and that they would never usually live so long in the wild. I’m trying to think about the extra lovely years we have had (and how in the wild my dog wouldn’t have his lovely bed by the radiator or been able to run into the kitchen every time he hears the cheese packet rustle!!!!) but it’s hard isn’t it?
Flowers for you
