Oh the smell

My gorgeous 3 year old pup had three lots of diarrhoea on the bedroom carpet throughout the night. The stench waking us up each time.

He’s had the runs a further 4 times today.

My flat stinks of dog shit and the farts, my god the farts.

He’s having boiled rice and chicken for dinner tonight but can anyone offer any smell killing advice? Or some festive solidarity?

Oh no! Been there!

I clean up, then sprinkle bicarbonate of soda and essential oil in the spot, leave for a while and then hoover.

It's a lingering hell isn't it?

That sounds like a great tip - thanks!

He had terrible bowels as a puppy as he had an intolerance to the kibble we were feeding him - I think I blocked out how terrible the smell can be!

The farts are just something else, it’s pretty chilly here today and we’ve got all the windows open!

He’s a greedy little bugger and delights on feeding on the discarded food scraps at the park. He’s probably eaten something foul.

Bio washing powder works well.

Zoflora. Dilute in a spray bottle and spray directly on the carpet after you've cleaned it. My dog has had tummy bugs in the past and the vet advised no food for 24 hours (just water) then mild food like chicken and rice.

As above but use Zoflora pet if you can get it. It has a strong and quite chemical smell which isn't particularly lovely, but it's a clean smell which obliterates everything and infinitely preferable to doggy diarrhoea stench.

I feel your pain! My dog had a bout just before Christmas. The worst bit was stepping barefoot into a poo drip I had missed when cleaning up and having to hop to the bathroom to clean my foot .

Slippery elm bark ( powder form) works well to stop diarreahoa when they are eat everything ! Vanish worked on our carpet but I found anything with a strong scent encouraged marking the area.
I use the slippery elm like salt and pepper on her food or mixed with dairy free yoghurt if I know she's been scavenging.

Order some Prokolin paste from Amazon, it works miracle for dogs (or cats - there is a cat version) with upset stomachs and I always keep some in stock. It is basically just a kaolin paste laced with probiotics, but it really works; wish there was a human version. Just mix it in their food and even the fussiest of my dogs appears to find it perfectly acceptable.

It is exactly what a vet will prescribe your dog, that's how I came across it and was very pleased to find you can buy it direct, but you are saving yourself the vet consultation fee.
