Lucky enough to get a Christmas bonus this year.
Im a keen animal lover and have seen a very worthwhile cause of a rescue for mainly golden retrievers. They have rescued a lot of the breed from a disgusting kill centre in Bosnia, where the dogs live in filth and all are underfed and have lots of health issues, and are treated very roughly and cruel.
I want to help, and have asked for their charity number and they have advised they are waiting for it from the charity commission.
Should I just donate or could this be a scam?

There is a large following on facebook, photos on Twitter certainly look legitimate.
Maybe I am just being cynical, but really want to make sure the donation gets to these poor dogs.
I feel a bit nasty questioning these wonderful people really.
What would you do?

Can you pm me the name of the charity, I work in dog rescue and can ask around?

Or you could send dog toys/treats/leads/collars/blankets instead of money?

There are plenty of registered charities around there doing equivalent work who aren't scams. I would pick one of those and donate to this one next Christmas if they've obtained their charity number.

I would never give money to an unregistered charity... yet alone one that claims to work abroad.
There are plenty of animal shelters in this country, caring for abused unwanted pets.

Ylvamoon The reason so many charities help dogs abroad is that in the UK the dogs are fed/watered/sheltered and then when the kennels are full , the dogs are humanely killed by injection. Dogs in kill shelters abroad are put 20 to a cage, chucked raw carcasses once a week to fight over, and then when they are full are drowned, poisoned or beaten to death.

And sadly, the dogs in the shelters in this country are not ones that people necessarily want to adopt (staffies, lurchers, terriers) unlike the rommie crossbreeds for example

If you want an alternative this year pending the charity getting their registration next year then Mission Rabies is a good one.
