I had to take my 14 and a half collie/Springer cross to the vets this afternoon. I knew what the outcome would be and we have been living on borrowed time for over 2 and a half years. She had been diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in her heart and predicted 6 months to live.
She was a gorgeous stubborn girl and had a doggy stroke in that time too.
She wagged her tail til the end, my angel.
We got her in September 2004 as a pup. My sister had died in a car crash and I was not coping at all. She gave me the will to carry on and I will never ever forget that.
Love you Moo.

So glad you were with her when her time came.
You have saved her going through the pain of the cancer.
I am sorry,it is shit.

I'm so sorry, you never really get over losing them. How incredibly lucky you were to have had each other though.

This is my favourite poem on the matter.

The Best Place To Bury A Dog

Ben Hur Lampman

But there is one best place to bury a dog.

If you bury him in this spot, he will come to you when you call—come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death, and down the well remembered path to your side again. And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel they shall not growl at him nor resent his coming, for he belongs there.

People may scoff at you, who see no lightest blade of grass bent by his footfall, who hear no whimper, people who may never really have had a dog. Smile at them, for you shall know something that is hidden from them.

The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master.

Look after yourself.
