The doghouse

A van killed my dog.

Can anyone help me, a van hit my dog yesterday and killed her outright. We were walking along the roadside back to our house when a van who was clearly speeding rammed into my dog.

She was my life & has literally saved my life as I have severe depression. She’s been by my side everyday for the last 10 years.

I don’t know what to do, emotionally or physically or pratcially. Can anyone help me please, what do I do?

I’m so sorry for your loss; you must be in shock. Flowers Some of the animal charities run bereavement counselling services. Please try giving them a call.

I'm so sorry OP.

How traumatic for you Sad

Did the van stop? Did you report it to the police? (You said the van was speeding)

I'm so sorry 🙁

In practical terms can you take your DDog to the vets? They can make arrangements for cremation or are you able to bury her?

Did the van stop? Did you get the registration? You can report it to the police & I think this is the right thing to do but is there anyone able to phone them for you or be with you when you call?

You're probably in shock so take care of yourself xx

So so sorry for your loss. Have you got some 'real life' support?

God I’m so sorry, what a bloody awful thing to happen. Did you get any details on the van or report it to the police? If you still have her with you you can arrange for the vets to cremate her for you, or bury her in your garden if that’s an option? Poor little dog.

Thanks everyone, it’s so traumatic I can’t stp crying. I am an emotional wreck. I called police yesterday and they were helpful but without cctv and a number plate they can’t do anything. I know the colour and type of van but not the plate.

My poor doggy I just get get her little face out of my mind.

Thanks for the link to the beverment councillor I think I’ll use it.

I'm so sorry OP, that's an awful thing to happen to you and your dog. Could you post on Facebook if there's a local group? Someone might know something that can help identify the driver x

housewifeoflittleitaly this is so traumatic and horrendous I can not image how horrific you must be feeling. Do give yourself time to deal with the shock and grief.

I totally would speak to the a bereavement councillor and do you have people in rl to support you - I guess talking about it would be the best thing to do.

Loads of virtual support from me

What an awful thing to happen OP. I'm sorry I don't have any advice but I didn't want to read and run. You must be traumatised, would it help to talk about it? X

I am so sorry, OP.
I am 12 days into grieving and it’s torturous. The vets gave me this site to look at.

A car (not speeding) killed our 11 month old puppy a few years ago. Devastated me. Still hurts thinking about it. She was wonderful, gave us so much joy in her short time.

It still hurts, and probably always will, but we also think about the times she made us laugh and that helps. It does get a little bit easier as time goes, but this first bit will be rough. I hope you have someone you can talk to it about, the blue cross have a bereavement line (0800 096 6606).

My deepest sympathies for your loss Flowers

What sort of area was it? Might any shops have CCTV there?

Might be worth a post on a local Facebook page if you have one. Describe the make and model and colour of the van and plead with people to be careful and it might jog someone’s memory. It might even nudge the conscience of the van driver and remind them to be more bloody careful in future. Flowers

Oh no, this is so sad and shocking. I don’t have much in the way of help really but just wanted to say how sorry I am for the loss of your beautiful, faithful companion. The pain must be unbearable. Can I ask what her name was please?
As pp has said, try and remember the happy times you had together and this will hopefully comfort you through the darkest moments.
When my dog died in January this year I found a wooden heart in a shop with the words ‘ Dogs leave paw prints on your heart’ which is true. 💐

Thanks again everyone it so nice to have complete strangers help in such an awful situation. I have looked into the counciling & will definitely do it. I just can’t get over the shock of seeing her when I got up & then looked down at her (her lead was ripped off)

I have reported it to the police & they called me again today but as I said it’s futile without cctv. I live quite rurally so unless someone has a dash cam it’s unlikely the person will be caught. I don’t have Facebook so DH said he would get a friend to put something up. DH & my dad have been really great. They have both helped me loads & my dad is retired so spent the day with me, even though I slept for almost 3 hours.

Knees Flowers for you too, its really heartbreaking. I hope you have good support around you too.

Nessie It’s such a shock and such a horrifying way to be killed, I feel so guilty that I didn’t save her. I don’t think I’ll ever get over it.

I’ve phoned the vet today & we are having her cremated tomorrow.
