Kennel cough?

My pup has had a very slight cough (like something irritating his throat kind of sound) for a while. It only happens maybe 3 times a week at most. It isn't constant by any means.

Could this be kennel cough or would it be more persistent/regular if it were?

He's booked in for his vaccination next week anyway but just want to know whether I should be keeping him away from other dogs.

He's got no other symptoms, he's playful and happy, no lethargy or discharge from his nose etc...

Could be. Loads of dogs around my area have caught it recently! My puppy had it and had this weird hacking cough for a few days but was otherwise ok in herself. It cleared up okay and she's fine now. She's had the vaccination now she has recovered but a bit like the flu jab apparently it doesn't mean they 100% wont get it.

How old is he and has he had any vaccinations already?

He's 15 weeks and no he's not had it yet but he's not really been around any other dogs either.

It's only ever one isolated cough (hack) and then he goes about his business until he does it again a day or so later.

Does he eat things in the garden? Eating slugs and snails can give them lungworm, my friend's dog had an occasional hack but no other symptoms.

The incubation for KC is usually around a week. Any chance he has come from the breeder with it ( if it is KC and I'm honestly not sure).
It's worth checking with a vet I think.

Mine did similar but I worked out it was always after he had been chewing on a tennis ball or he had eaten his food too fast.

I did mention it to the vet and she said said most likely to be puppy gobbling or the fluff from the tennis ball 🎾 tickling his throat.

He’s 6 months and it stopped within a couple of weeks.

Def worth mentioning at the vet appointment but make sure your insurance is sorted before you go though. I tried to change insurance and now it’s down as a pre existing condition and no respiratory issues are covered for at least a year!
