Dogs Christmas

What do you all get for your pets at Christmas? My family and friends claim I spoil my 4 dogs too much, I spend too much money on them etc my response is usually my money my dogs my business, but out of curiosity would you all say this is too much? and how much do you spend on your dogs/cats/horses etc.

firstly on the 22/23rd (or last weekday if those land on a weekend) I take my dogs to the groomers for the works the owner gives me a deal £150 for all 4 which works out at £37.50 per dog instead of £45, I have 2 long-standing appointments with them one in summer one right before Christmas, I have Akitas so rarely need bathing and I keep up with everything else myself in between these appointments like brushing nails ears etc.

I then buy a pack of 4 tennis balls for £1 so 25p each
a squeaky toy each £1
a rope ball thing 89p home bargains
a pig ear from the butcher 50p each
a pack of their favourite treats they each have a different favourite so the price varies at most £2 each.
and a new collar which are from pets at home around £6 / £7

let me round up say £50 per dog totally £200 for them all, the=is doesn't seem excessive to me,

I have one DSS, (11) he wants for nothing. and I hold my hands up he is spoilt rotten at Christmas,

(i will be slated by non-dog people for my next statement)
my dogs are my furbabies they are compensation I guess for the children I cannot have I always wanted a bunch of kids but unfortunately couldn't so I chose to have dogs instead.

I also wrap my dog's gifts loosely they really enjoy ripping them open and get all excited and they each have a felt stocking I bought in pound land and embroidered their names onto.

do you give your pets a special dinner on birthdays and Christmas? I do, birthdays they usually get liver and Christmas they get a Christmas dinner.
I cook theirs separate to ours so I know its safe for them; they have carrots a little bit of mashed potato some of our turkey a pig in blanket some plain boiled cabbage some boiled peas or green beans. with their complete dry food, i make them a small amount of gravy with the water off the veg and a low salt stock cube. I probably seem nuts dont I?

My dog only really loves balls so we don't do presents anymore as it's pointless.

He goes to the groomers just before xmas but then we go every 5-6 weeks anyway.

He does get to share the turkey though and we freeze portions for him to have later as well.

I bought mine a hamper from Fetch last Christmas. It was about £25 and had a toy in plus some nice treats and food with antler ears to wear. He spent hours sniffing it under the tree, and couldn't wait for it to be opened for him!! I was going to do the same this year and it's the same bloody box.... every single content the same. I could cry and now think I'm going to have to find another from somewhere else Grin

In fairness though, I do only buy him tennis balls through the year and I groom myself so he doesn't cost a lot in terms of treats.

Well Bella's birthday is on 8th December and Eric's is on Christmas Eve so Bella will have the birthday that Eric gets, a new toy, her favourite food (a freshly cooked chicken leg) and I will make a cake, light a candle and we will sing to her.

They both are enjoying an advent calendar that cost more than the chocolate ones the dc's got and on Christmas day they will get more toys, a stocking with treats in and a Christmas dinner of turkey, a sausage and raw carrot and sprouts.

I always buy my dog toys and this year she has a new jumper. And she will get half a dozen of those yak milk chews.

And she needs a haircut so she's definitely going to the groomers at some point.

I love buying for the dog and watching her tear the brown paper off Grin

All our family buy for the dog too

Mine always has a stocking with various noisy toys, which she loves. Our last dog loved christmas, from putting the decs up to the dog stocking. New dog hasn't got into the swing of it yet, being young. I probably spend around £30. Dog always has some turkey and veg after we've eaten on Christmas day.

Last year mine got a few loose treats wrapped up in a big otherwise empty cardboard box. Kept him busy for ages. Grin

I don’t dare add up how much I spend on him on treats, toys and training throughout the year though! And I don’t care how much it is either.

My dog gets presents to unwrap , this year he has an equafleece jumper , a new blanket , a ball and I will get another toy as well . He is at the groomers on the Friday before Christmas but that’s just coincidental as he goes every 3rd or 4th Friday for either a cut or just a bath . He has leftovers every night and Christmas will be no different .

Battendog has an advent calendar and will have a couple of new toys, a new buffalo horn and a few treats to open on the day.

He would have had a proper groom but his groomer is fully booked so he will have to make do with a shower and a haircut by his mum Grin

My dd (6) is planning on spoiling her dog this Christmas as it's his first one Smile he is getting a big deer antler, a pack of tennis balls, a big kong ball, a new snuggly and some treats. I'm not going to wrap it as he's destructive enough as it is and I don't want him thinking ripping paper up is ok! If he's stopped being a complete arsehole by then he might get a new bed but he's going to have to show that he's learnt his lesson and won't rip it up 😂

I went to Pets at home only yesterday and bought them a £10 toy each. Expensive as apparently non destructible. We shall see! That is on top of pigs ears, a bone, a rope toy and an advent calendar each. They are part of the family and deserve to be treated too!

I've got 4 also Op & they are also "my babies"
My eldest DD died suddenly last year & I honestly don't know what we'd have done without them .
They've given us so much comfort & also we've had to try to keep going as 4 dogs need a lot !
Even now a year later when support from those around us who you'd think would be there aren't,our furry friends are by our sides ,loving us ,trying to lick up our tears & showing us that they are devoted & forever faithful.

They will be spoilt this Christmas & whenever else I can show them how much I love them regardless of what others think !

I am heart broken, she was amazing her 3 kids were also heart broken too so we got them a puppy my bitch is like a surrogate mum to her teaching her alsorts and the boys are like over protective uncles she really helped them heal....She is a little shit though so naughty and noisy
Same here family and friends now do t even bother asking how we are after our loss yet I still cry every single day.

Last year DDog got a luxury ball chucker (admittedly as much a present for me as it was for him) and a frankly excessive quantity of christmas dinner fed to him under the table by my incorrigible family. He was, however, an unexpected Christmas guest after his old owner simply failed to pick him up on Christmas Eve as agreed Hmm

This year it will be a new toy and, unavoidably, more Christmas dinner! It's a good job his digestive system appears to be made of cast iron.

Oh yes, last year he got all the slightly old leftover turkey that my dad was about to throw away!

1 new toy to unwrap and tasty morsels from the Christmas turkey. Oh and a good walk. That is everything a dog would love.

A sack full - but in my defence the treats last the full year and she does get so excited unwrapping presents. Some of the presents are toys, and some are the sort that you stick treats in to make them work for it. She keeps me sane so she's worth it.

Tennis balls! Cheap and they love it if you scrunch some wrapping paper round them to rip up- no tape though.

Our mini schnauzer at my parents house has always loved the wrapping paper when opening presents😂

I absolutely adore my dog but don't do anything for him for Christmas as I just get him things when I want to all year round. I don't think there's anything wrong at all with spoiling your dogs at Christmas though if you like to and it's no one else's business!

This year my boyfriend and I's cocker spaniel puppy is getting a 3k operation on his legs anyway before Christmas so the £400 excess is his present😉😂 (we've bought him so much stuff though over the past 9 months!)

Oh definitely, they are part of the family! Wouldn't dream of missing her out! She ha got a new lead and collar (this is a yearly thing as she likes to chew threw her leads as soon as its attached to her!), A cone of treat bones, a christmas cracker bone treat thing, a surprise box and a jumping, noisy activation ball thing. I bought most of it from a local shop so it makes it even better! Oh and the advent calendar! I read somewhere that on average in the UK we spend arounf £14 on our pets at Christmas - I might be a tad over :-) And of course she gets a christmas dinner with us!

Our pets are spoilt rotten even when it’s not Christmas Grin this is also our first year with our puppy so I’m bound to go overboard! I’m not finished yet but so far she’s got;
A tin of “Christmas dinner” fancy dog food,
A slipper toy as she loves stealing our shoes 😂
Rhubarb perfume,
A new water bowl that I’m purchasing a personalised name sticker for,
Fancy bedtime treats,
Treats that look like flumps.

Im planning to buy her a food bowl, a blankie, tennis balls, probably more treats, a replacement for her favourite toy she destroyed, and probably more 😂

She also has an advent calendar and will definitely manage to get some Christmas dinner.
