Does anyone feed their dog Lilly’s kitchen? Is it good?

Our dog likes it and gets along with it. Just 1/4-can mixed through her RC kibble at dinner time for a bit of variety.

Any other recommendations for dog food? I would like good quality and do not mind paying for it, but do not want to pay extra for their marketing :) I do not want to do raw. I am looking for good quality kibble. Occasionally, we add salmon or roast chicken or an hard boiled egg (a few times a week) :)

If you go onto the website I linked above it lets you filter by nutritional quality, price, dry vs wet, specific ingredients etc. etc.

Aatu, Akela, Carnilove, Eden, Millie's Wolfheart, Orijen and other come up, amongst others, all at a lower cost per day than Lily's Kitchen and higher nutritional rating.

My dog has mixed feeding and has her canned foods from Lily’s. I think it is really good quality so it is economical because she needs less of it than the watery cheaper alternatives.

For kibble she has Essentials. A big bag is about £40 but lasts ages.

I find Lily's Kitchen to be pretty good. I've bought it for the pup and our cats in the past. It is expensive but it lasts much longer than cheaper stuff because they don't need as much of it.

Lily's gets 4.5/5 on AADF, but it does come across as expensive (tinned food always does, because AADF usually uses the RRP per single tin and ignores multipacks). Used as a flavour addition to a complete kibble it's more economical than the numbers suggest.

AADF really needs to show combination diets. Calculating the daily food value based on feeding just a tinned wet food with no other contribution to the diet doesn't reflect how most owners I know would feed their dog. There's no way I'd be giving my dog 2.5 cans of Lily's per day, which is what is suggested and how the calculation is done.

AADF can be useful, but you need to think critically about the data it presents.

Yes, I'd never exclusively feed wet unless I had no choice. I always mix wet and kibble together for all my animals.

My girls been having it since 10 weeks - the lamb kibble. She yums it up, no waste. I put a squirt of salmon oil in it for her skin.

Nice firm poos, she's never had any soft stools or diarrhoea since the beginning.

She's been on it over 2 years, her whole life.

It's cheap in comparison to her daycare/insurance/monthly flea/worm - she's 10kg so it costs about £8 a week.

How about a breed specific royal canin? Can get them on amazon and they are fairly cheap but def good for my doggy!

I’ve been giving our dog the Lily’s Kitchen breakfast biscuits. She LOVES them. Reading the ingredients I’d probably eat it

Our dog (small terrier mixed breed) has forthglade wet and forthglade dry food. We’ve had no problems, and he’s a very healthy dog.

Forthglade also make the Wainwrights wet food for Pets At Home. Wainwrights is good, high meat content, there’s a grain free option too. Wet and dry. Our dog has the wet grain free trays with Laughing Fog grain free dry on top. She did have Lily’s Kitchen dry on top but went off it after a year so we chop and change the dry but keep the Wainwrights wet trays as she really likes those. They are duck with veg, turkey with veg and lamb with veg.

My pup has the kibble occasionally - I tend to rotate through about 4 or 5 brands - and he does very well on it and loves it.

I mix feed and do around 1/3 kibble (soaked in hot water) to around 2/3 wet food.

It must be good quality as it’s the only dog food our Pomeranian deigns to eat with gusto. However it’s too rich for him, and he ends up with runny poos, not nice in combination with a fluffy bottom.

However it got my elderly, poorly spaniel eating again when she went off her food, though now she’s regained her appetite she’s back on cheaper food.

I have to admit I'm always rather sceptical of this argument given some of the things my dog will eat off the pavement with gusto. Amongst the worst was congealed human vomit, which probably had a higher alcohol content than is nutritionally advised for dogs.

Like children, they'll eat what tastes good rather than what is necessarily best for them - smarties vs cabbage anyone?

It’s one of the few our JRT will deign to touch. He has about 1/3 tin each day plus their kibble. At the moment he’s in a venison duck phase ( who wouldn’t be).

Ive tried other sorts, given our dog in my childhood was under a 1960s regime of that was her dinner and eat it , think of the poor starving dogs in Africa, , and I’m sure had poor quality food, but he becomes even itchier and moults even more and whines more. I’m prépared to pay for peace.

I wouldn’t recommend it.
It worked well for us until we changed flavour from chicken to venison. Our dog reacted badly to the change or the flavour and ever since we’ve had to be careful about what he eats (or we get green runny poo and weight loss).
Now he gets Canagan chicken and salmon and things are much better.
